Job Description:
Preferred Qualifications
The Market Risk Technology team is looking for a Director, Market Risk Technology to contribute to and extend the platform.
The Market Risk Technology team, composed of 2 families of apps (Valuation Services and Risk and Capital Studio), is responsible for the development and support of our derivatives (Interest Rate, FX, Credit, Commodity) valuation, trading risk and enterprise market risk platforms for TD Securities. This suite of applications utilize the latest in technology and devOps to deliver highly scalable technology solutions that facilitate all parts of our business. The core team is in Toronto and New York.
The ideal candidate would be a seasoned engineering leader, who could motivate, inspire, and maximize the potential of the team to build a suite of top notch applications driving business initiatives forward. The individual should also be self-starting, motivated and high-performing who looks forward to being a strong contributor in a dynamic technology organization at a major bank. There is a strong mandate to simplify and modernize our market risk infrastructure and software, and the role will work closely with financial modeling quant groups, business groups, and other development/engineering groups to achieve that. Please note that the role is senior and collaborative in nature, and will require collaboration with other directors and executives in and outside the group, to establish a vision and strategy to grow both our platforms and the dealer as a whole. The successful candidate is expected to manage an international team.
Required Skills
- Proven capability to lead and manage software development teams
- Strong knowledge and extensive work experience with Core Java
- Strong knowledge and experience building cloud native microservices services as well as containerization
- Prior experience working with and strong understanding data lakehouse solutions (e.g. databricks, dremio)
- Extensive Experience working with ZeroMQ, Kafka, Spark, Hadoop, REST services
- Experience working with scalable and low latency systems
- Strong mindset in creating stable and secure software in a growing audit landscape
- Strong understanding of risk and financial products is a plus
- Outstanding ability to establish and maintain tech and business relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to explain and present concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike
- Experience using and/or building an analytical quant library
- Ability to influence outside the area of assigned formal authority
- 10+ years of experience supporting interest rate derivatives trading operations from front to back
- Seasoned capabilities to lead, inspire, and motivate an international team
Education
BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience.

The Director - Tech Solutions TDS Management builds and maintains strong business relationship with assigned clients / internal partners and provides direction and guidance on optimal technology solutions/services to meet business needs. The position generally manages a varied team of IT professionals and bridges the gap between the business and technology, and leverages resources across functional or specialized technology areas to ensure end to end delivery of agreed upon solutions or services within planned forecasts / cost estimates. Role generally supports a significant Business area, Product Group, Enterprise Platform, Service or Capability within a Segment CIO or Functional area.
Depth & Scope:

- Sets work direction at an operational level, works autonomously in the management of the unit and collaborates with other business or technology leaders to establish and execute on common goals with a medium to longer term business perspective
- Expert knowledge of the business and bank technology standards (e.g., infrastructure, architecture, processes, applications) from a strategic perspective and managing/ directing teams and projects
- Sound knowledge of external competition, emerging, industry and/or market trends in relation to own business
- Integrator role that oversees various technology functions / resources to deliver business technical solutions or shared service
- Oversees a sizable and varied team of technology professionals (e.g., up to 50+ consisting of Application Developers, Solutions Designers, Business Systems Analysts, Specialists, and/or Project Managers) in the end to end delivery of complex projects, system enhancements / applications and/or application or service management
- Directs/manages large-scale applications/ projects across multiple product lines/ businesses, involving significant scope and complexity
- Understands strategic direction (including financials) and champions alliances to benefit the Bank and/or department; advocates for operational improvements to enhance the divisions value to the organization
- Role typically reports to an Executive role
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate.
- Graduate degree, preferred.
- 10+ years related experience.
