Job Summary
The Senior Enterprise Architect is responsible for shaping, guiding, and communicating the enterprise architecture of Surescripts' applications and systems. This role spans the organization, collaborating closely with engineering and product management teams to ensure cohesive, scalable, and innovative designs across our network systems and applications.

Acting as a strategic facilitator, the incumbent will champion architectural best practices and design principles, helping teams identify key challenges and drive transparent, efficient decision-making. This is a highly hands-on role that demands deep technical expertise across multiple platforms, including the ability to prototype, develop, or integrate functionality in close partnership with engineering teams.
A critical aspect of this role involves evaluating and integrating system infrastructures and services from new partners or acquisitions. The architect will define integration roadmaps that align with Surescripts' long-term architectural vision and innovation goals. This individual will also engage with VP and C-level technology and business leaders both internally and externally, to align architectural strategies with business objectives and ensure the successful evolution of our technology ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product and strategy teams to explore how emerging technologies can enable new products and features.
- Rapidly prototype architectural concepts to validate feasibility and accelerate innovation cycles.
- Translate visionary product ideas into scalable, secure, and maintainable architectural solutions.
- Ensure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals.
- Work closely with engineering teams to design systems for improved functionality and reliability.
- Provide expert guidance on best practices for both on-premises and cloud-based solutions.
- Analyze, assess, and promote emerging industry standards, tools, and techniques.
- Identify, define, and prioritize key infrastructure functionality necessary to build or buy to meet the needs of the business.
- Draft and maintain detailed systems architecture documentation.
- Technical due diligence of potential partners and acquisitions from C-level to engineering and operations staff.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
- 12+ years of experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and technical leadership
- 12 years of software development experience
- 5 years of data modeling design experience
- 5 years of architecture experience
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience translating business strategy into technical execution
- Experience in early phase product design, prototyping, estimation, and iteration
- Experience in C#, Java, and Python
- Experience designing and implementing large scale solution architectures, with a focus on distributed systems and cloud-native technologies
- Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their core services, including cost optimization best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in Healthcare IT
- Healthcare domain knowledge - EHRs, insurance payers, pharmacies, drug databases
- Experience and understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements and laws
- Management and leadership experience
- Software consulting experience
- Experience with GCP services like GKE, AlloyDB, Bigtable, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataproc, BigQuery and Pub/Sub or similar cloud platforms
- Experience with Kafka, Cassandra, InfluxDB, HashiCorp Consul, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Ansible
- Experience with DevOps, GitOps, and continuous delivery
- UI design and development experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Angular, React, Bootstrap
- AI and machine learning experience

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $198,700 - $242,900 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
