As a member of the site Senior Management Team the EHS Manager is responsible for the continual improvement and administration of the environmental health and safety program, and facility risk management at Alberta Distillers Ltd (ADL). The EHS Manager provides leadership as site EHS champion, educates plant personnel, mediates potential violation and provides general expertise in all EHS matters. Additionally, this leader is a key liaison with Suntory Global Spirits Corporate and various government regulatory stakeholders to ensure the EHS program meets or exceeds required guidelines, standards and legal requirements.

Role Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the contract security program in EHS matters, policies, procedures, and incident follow up.
- Ensure compliance with OH&S and all regulatory bodies
- Coordinate the thorough investigation, root cause problem solving and administrative follow through of all work-related incidents including injury, property damage, environmental and near miss.
- Takes responsibility for managing ADL key performance indicators (KPIs) related to EHS matters and reports certain critical EHS KPIs to Beam Suntory Corporate.
- Completes required regulatory Government reporting as necessary in EHS matters.
- Prepares ADL site annual safety goals and develops long range strategies (3-5 years) to improve site safety programs.
- Leads by example and has a high level of visibility in the plant. This Manager regularly engages in site safety informal and formal activities through ongoing interactions with employees. Engagement with plant personnel is a key requirement. This person promotes safety initiatives and is very aware of employee concerns.
- Submission of quarterly, monthly and yearly reports to corporate and regulatory authorities.
- Filing of permit applications relating to EH&S.
- Serve as ISO 14001 Environmental Management Representative (EMR) and OHSAS 18001 Safety Management Representative (SMR) with accountability for both Management systems. Ensure certification to both standards is maintained and continuous improvement objectives are met for current and future ISO Standards. Participates in site preparation for ISO Audits, works with ISO Audits and in documenting and preparing action plans to correct audit finding deficiencies.
- Implementation and maintenance of Alberta Safety COR program.
- Works closely with Human Resources to ensure appropriate injury reporting documentation is completed including ADL internal reports, Suntory Corporate reports and any government reports (i.e., If necessary Workers Compensation Board or other regulatory requirement.
- Manage and direct waste disposal and recycling programs.
- Manages annual budget of EH&S programs and activities
- Member of the Site Steering Committee (SSC) and Best Practice Champion for EHS
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Health or Safety or related field
- Minimum 5-10 years of managing EHS, preferably in a manufacturing facility
- Experience in administration of safety prevention programs
- Demonstrated familiarity of OH&S, EPA, DOT, FM, NFPA & OSHA regulations and working knowledge of fire prevention techniques
- Experience working with Union operations an asset
- Knowledge of ISO standards is an asset.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and capable of learning and working in other key software systems (i.e. Compliant Pro, Share Point)
- Excellent Communication skills: An effective change leader with ability to proactively communicate status and required improvements top employees, peers and facility manager. Must be proficient in using multiple forms of verbal and written communication
- Organizational Skills: Ability to develop and maintain multiple action plans, provide routine status updates and drive the need actions to completion in a timely manner
- Ability to make critical decisions and stay calm in emergency situations
- Compliance with standard operating procedures, legal and other requirements including health and safety, fire protection, environmental, quality, security and continuous improvement programs is a requirement of the job
- Mobility to access all areas of the plant site
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
