Position Summary
Responsible for participating in the management of all aspects of Stryker Corporation's property loss control engineering program, including the development and maintenance of Stryker's Property Loss Control Guidelines (PLCGs). The Senior Manager's responsibilities will include facilitating compliance with the PLCGs in support of Stryker's efforts to maintain a Highly Protected Risk (HPR) status, helping to manage the related services provided by various vendors, including Stryker's insurance brokerage consultants and unbundled property loss control engineering services provider, conducting risk assessments and supporting projects and management of change reviews.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Senior Property Loss Control Engineering Manager will work closely with the Director, Property and Casualty Risk Engineering, internal customers (especially EHS, Facilities, Engineering, and Operations) and/or the consultant engineers at Stryker's insurance broker and unbundled loss control engineering services provider to perform various duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- developing and maintaining Stryker's Property Loss Control Guidelines (PLCGs);
- managing compliance with the PLCGs at Stryker's major locations through a variety of means, including:
- participating in the management of the schedule of property loss control surveys by the unbundled loss control engineering services provider, including reviewing and commenting on the survey reports issue by the provider;
- actively participating in a number of the property loss control surveys each year;
- working with location personnel (EHS, Facilities, Operations, Engineering, Finance, etc.) to determine whether and how to most effectively address any loss control recommendations made by the unbundled loss control engineering services provider as a result of surveys, plan reviews, etc.;
- working with locations to manage changes to their facilities and operations so as to minimize, to the extent practical, the risk of loss to Stryker assets and revenues; and
- answering general property loss control engineering questions and concerns from internal customers.
- managing the property loss control engineering services provided by the consultant engineers at Stryker's insurance broker and unbundled loss control engineering services provider as assigned;
- managing the infrared services provider with scheduling and tracking recommendations related to the global infrared inspection program at sites as assigned; and
- developing responses to requests for information and/or documentation regarding Stryker's property loss control engineering program, particularly from Stryker's insurance broker and/or insurers in connection with the annual renewal of Stryker's property and business interruption insurance program;
- additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
As time permits following the completion of the primary duties and responsibilities listed above, the person filling this position may also become involved in:
- marine and/or casualty loss control engineering activities;
- business continuity planning/management activities;
- supply chain risk management activities;
- insurance program placement and administration activities; and
- insurance claims administration support.
What you need:
- Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related specialty area, including science, technology or math.
- 10+ years of industry experience in the field of study or a related area.
- Experience in providing Property Loss Control Engineering services in an Insurance Company/ Services Vendor, Insurance Brokerage/Consulting and/or Risk Management Department capacity is a plus.
- Must be familiar with a variety of HPR and Property Loss Control Engineering concepts, practices, and procedures and knowledgeable about current applicable codes and standards (NFPA, FM Data Sheets, etc.)
- Advanced technical or business degrees and/or professional designations or certifications, including Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), are a plus.
- Membership / active participation in various industry groups, including NFPA, SFPE or similar industry groups is a plus.
