Who we are looking for

Based in London, the role of the Global Markets Technology ("GMT") Head of Risk & Capital Optimization IT is to lead the suite of applications supporting risk management, balance sheet optimization and analytics for State Street's Global Markets businesses.

The team is based in London, Boston, Bangalore / Hyderabad, and Hangzhou and leverages agile software development methodologies. The technology is a combination of in-house and vendor applications supporting risk management, multi asset-class margining, balance sheet optimization, client analytics and trading optimization processes for our Agency Lending and Prime businesses.

An important part of this role is the definition and maintenance of both an application and data architecture which is critical to supporting and growing the scale of the Financing Solutions and Foreign Exchange businesses. The Head of Risk & Capital Optimization IT will need to articulate the architectural vision of the program to senior managers and executives in Global Markets and IT as well as liaise with the trading and front office risk leads in the business. The individual in this role will manage teams globally in both direct and matrix structures. This role will be a member of the GM IT Leadership team and will be expected to contribute to the broader priorities of the team.

What you will be responsible for

As Managing Director you will

  • Oversee teams with a broad range of skills and specialisms, specifically with experience in building risk management and trading analytics applications for Securities Lending or Foreign Exchange businesses
  • Focus on assuring the core functionality, services, and tools developed by the team meet the needs of the Global Markets Risk & Capital, Securities Lending and Foreign Exchange businesses globally, adhere to corporate architecture standards and objectives, and meet the financial and technical objectives of the GM business strategy
  • Have deep understanding of technology and application development, preferably with 'hands-on' experience
  • Have Experience of developing and maintaining an application and data architecture across a front to markets optimization and analytics platform.
  • Deep experience in developing low latency market making and algorithmic trading systems that serve large clients
  • Strong knowledge of data usage and end to end data management
  • Understanding of Securities Lending, Prime Brokerage, Repo and FX businesses and their risk, regulatory and capital requirements
  • Knowledge of the market data providers and industry utilities that permeate the Securities Lending industry
  • Complete knowledge of the software development lifecycle for iterative, agile, and traditional approaches
  • Strong background in release management and understanding of architectural schematics
  • Willingness to support 24 x 7 global management oversight
  • Experience with managing offshore and onshore teams

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in financial services, preferably: capital markets and securities lending, prime brokerage, foreign exchange, and/or derivatives
  • 8+ years experience with overseeing large scale risk, analytics and optimization platform builds for Securities Lending, Prime and/or Securities Financing
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline
