Become a Public Affairs Senior Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will lead the development and implementation of strategic, integrated engagement plans that result in favorable outcomes for energy-related policy and infrastructure projects to help safely deliver reliable, clean and affordable electricity.
Core responsibilities include managing external engagement for a portfolio of business, policy, and infrastructure projects across the service area, including coordinating the Local Public Affairs department's participation in SCE's Incident Command System program and ensuring compliance with public safety regulations and reporting. The Senior Advisor will develop and drive the execution of comprehensive, strategic external engagement plans and lead community engagement efforts on various topics. They work closely with internal teams to understand business objectives, policy priorities, and key energy infrastructure projects, and lead cross functional teams to drive for results. This includes engaging with policy makers and their staff, making presentations to government officials and in external stakeholder forums. They also develop and track key metrics, identify trends or issues, and make recommendations to company leadership to mitigate risk and optimize outcomes. The Senior Advisor will also lead engagement with local government partners to facilitate better interagency cooperation and coordination during emergency events and lead efforts to educate local governments around resiliency measures. The Senior Advisor provides support in an assigned role for the Organizational Unit (OU) and company emergency response, resiliency, and Incident Management Team (IMT) activations. After hours, night and weekend duty rotation may be required.

Responsibilities
- Leads larger strategic relationship-building projects; engages new officials and re-strategizes relationships; ensures SCE initiatives are clearly communicated
- Takes the lead in setting the agenda for forums and gatherings, determines the key topics and focus areas; leads discussions and engages proactively with government officials; starts to strategize on SCE's approach to potential legislation
- Approves correspondence, forms, and other documents as well as ensures they are without error
- Leads the completion of report, ensuring deadlines are met and that the reports are of high quality; interacts directly with legal or compliance teams to ensure full compliance; provides recommendations for improving the report filing process
- Highlights issues that may affect company operations and project developments in briefing notes for senior management and leads the development of reports for the corporate office
- Leads development of policy content, anticipating organizational needs and industry shifts; influences internal discussions and external engagements with developed content ensuring the organization's voice is prominently featured in broader policy conversations
- Leads the flow of information from the Government Affairs office to internal stakeholders relying on information from them, such as strategic initiatives, agency actions, and legislative proposals
- Identifies priority issues and reaches out to industry lobbying coalitions regarding those matters
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ten or more years of experience working in public affairs, government relations, or community relations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Political Science, Business, or related field.
- Experience working closely with local government(s ), public works agencies, emergency management, and environmental sustainability organizations.
- Experience tracking and reporting on regulatory or legislative compliance mandates.
- Experience giving presentations on complex issues to non-technical audiences, including city councils, boards of supervisors, and the general public.
- Experience working in the energy industry.
- Experience managing external engagement for infrastructure projects and public involvement or community engagement activities.
- Experience working with fire agencies, emergency management, or other public safety agencies.
- Experience in public safety policy or demonstrated experience developing public safety policy proposals at the city or county level.
- Familiarity with the Incident Command System.
- Strong strategic planning, analytical, and effective organizational skills with a high level of initiative
- Effective decision making, results delivery, and team building.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, summarize and recommend ideas and concepts to senior management in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
- Strong ethics, people skills, and the ability to optimally manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
- Ability to prioritize and project manage multiple projects concurrently.
Additional Information
- This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.\u202f Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.\u202f Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
