THE ROLE

The VP, Global Retail Growth Strategies is responsible for designing and leading the creation and implementation of revenue-generating initiatives, including product merchandising strategies, contract and incentive schemes, and data-enabled client segmentation and CRM strategies, as well as sourcing and development of new revenue streams in the areas of retail services and experiences, exhibitions, and other retail partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and lead the evolution of retail business to drive increased turnover and remove barriers to sale, including product sourcing and merchandising strategies, contract structures and processes, incentive structures, and pricing strategies
  • Create a retail client segmentation strategy and activate data-targeted client engagement, CRM, and loyalty strategies that continually grow clients from lower-value segments to higher-value segments
  • Build business case and execution frameworks for new retail revenue streams including paid services, masterclasses, experiences, retail partnerships and space rentals, and new retail formats
  • Define a global framework and business targets for non-auction revenue related to programming and work with global cross-functional partners to source new clients and relationships for these ventures (e.g. selling exhibitions; gallery buy-outs, etc)
  • Define product assortment, key client targets, and service offering(s) for new salon locations
  • Design and manage quarterly retail KPIs and lead annual strategic plan for retail

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA is desired
  • 10+ years in luxury and/or omnichannel retail with experience in client analytics, data-targeted client engagement, strategy consulting, and/or investment banking a plus
  • Experience building business cases and defining frameworks for new initiatives
  • Proven track record in driving scalable change and business transformations
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and change – retail is an emergent function within Sotheby’s and an entrepreneurial mindset is important
  • Willingness to continuously improve, develop, and understand industry best practices and a desire to stay ahead of the curve and at the forefront of innovation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team (local and global)
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Be proactive/motivated/confident/forward thinking and efficient, with a good eye for detail and ability to prioritise tasks and to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
  • Fluent in English essential, other languages beneficial

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $150,000 - $200,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
