General Summary:
The VP, Sales, Colonial Life will lead the company's sales, recruiting and new manager development efforts in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington D.C. and West Virginia. The VP will ensure the effective execution of the Playbook System and the five Fundamentals (Recruiting, Direct Sales, New Manager Development, Account Management and Broker Sales).
The VP of Sales is expected to reside in the Northeast.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- The VP, Sales, Colonial Life will lead the company's sales, recruiting and new manager development efforts in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington D.C. and West Virginia.
- Responsible for profitable regional sales growth and results in the five key fundamentals of Recruiting, Direct Sales, Broker Sales, Account Management and New Manager Development.
- Responsible for the recruiting and development of territory sales managers and ensuring their development leads to effective execution of the Playbook System in the field force. Help build direct report bench-strength, retaining and motivating high performers.
- Ensure staffing levels are in line with sales plan and there is consistent and significant improvement in new manager success rates in the field organization.
- On-going management and coaching of Territory Sales Managers to ensure the appropriate training and development, mentoring, and performance management.
- Measure results against all expectations and take appropriate/timely corrective action.
- Build teamwork and followership among the Territory Managers that ensures effective and consistent execution of the Playbook System and the 5 Fundamentals across the region.
- Partner effectively with all Home Office partners to ensure Colonial Life's overall business objectives are focused on in a collaborative way.
- Effectively manage expenses to ensure alignment with allocated budget.
- Act as senior representative for Colonial Life, maintaining professional and highly ethical standards at all time.
- Actively engage in regional and national efforts to improve the company's performance beyond their own region's results.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Strong experience and understanding of the benefits industry, in particular in recruiting, direct sales and new manager development working with commissioned sales people.
- Demonstrated success leading a team of sales professionals
- Strong leadership capabilities with demonstrated sales success
- Proven success in a complex business role
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Strong ability to influence and persuade
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as problem solving skills
- 75-80% travel requirement
