About the opportunity:
Shutterstock is a leading global creative platform offering high-quality creative content for transformative brands, digital media, and marketing companies. This is an exciting opportunity for a generalist lawyer with a media and entertainment background who is looking to work in-house in our London or Dublin office for an international legal team.
As Legal Counsel you will provide commercially focused legal advice in a wide variety of legal areas supporting our EMEA and APAC business activities. You will also conduct solid analysis and provide pragmatic and strategic advice to other business and legal experts, including in the areas of studios production, advertising and marketing, finance, privacy and security, intellectual property, regulatory and commercial licensing. The ideal candidate must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, and intellectually curious.

The day to day:
- Provide legal guidance and support across a wide variety of areas including copyright, licensing, contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and compliance matters within the EMEA region
- Partner with our Editorial and Studios teams on day-to-day matters and supporting their growth initiatives, as well as drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and rights agreements
- Provide cross-functional support for responding to, investigating, managing and resolving disputes
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on digital media, intellectual property, data privacy and regulatory matters, such as emerging AI and digital media regulations and the CSR Directive
- Advise on risk mitigation and compliance matters, and assist with the drafting of policies
What you'll bring to the role:
- Significant post qualification experience as a commercial/media/IP lawyer working in a leading law firm or in-house in the technology, digital media, and entertainment industry
- Understanding of EU regulations, intellectual property laws and data protection regulations
- Experience taking on projects involving different subject matters, and working with cross-functional departments to drive alignment and execute business initiatives
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills with the ability to build relationships and effectively liaise with internal and external teams
- Flexible and resourceful with the ability to work independently, manage ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced environment
