The Finance organization is responsible for leading and participating in a number of critical functions including: supporting executive management decisions making by analyzing results, assessing strategic alternatives and developing strategic plans; communicating financial results and forecasts with critical stakeholders, including executive management and Board of Directors, shareholders and regulators; managing the Company's balance sheet, including interest rate and liquidity risks; establishes the Company's capital policies and prioritizes investments; develops and implements controls to reduce operational risk; developing and maintaining financial data and systems. The Finance organization works across functions and Business lines in the Company, requiring a broad understanding of our business, risk and strategy.

The Tax function is responsible for the operations and controls surrounding accounting, tax and financial reporting of the institution. This function's responsibilities demonstrate expertise in processing transactions, recording accounting entries, managing the general ledger and reconciliations, and interpreting and complying with technical accounting matters and financial reporting disclosure requirements. Through the Controllership function, stakeholders receive relevant insight and commentary on transaction-level and financial results for analysis and decision making. The Tax function prepares income tax returns and indirect tax filings. Provides research and advice on tax-related matters.

Essential Functions/Responsibility Statements:

  • Experience in Foreign Banking Operations (FBO) Tax.
  • Monitor new intercompany activities to ensure compliance with US tax and transfer pricing requirements.
  • Partner with Accounting, Legal, Treasury and other business areas to address the tax implications to support new products, initiatives and changes.
  • Understands and can explain complex tax requirements for FBOs.
  • Lead the day-to-day US tax aspects of the US federal tax return and related aspects of the quarterly tax provision.
  • Background with US Federal, State and Local tax compliance.
  • Knowledge on Accounting for Income Taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12.
  • Experience with Inbound Banking tax issues, including, but not limited to Effectively Connected Income principles, Treas. Reg. Section 1.882-5, Interbranch transactions, and state and local taxation of US branches.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess and understand trends [e.g., explain the correlation of rising interest rates on the Effective Tax Rate].
  • Tax account reconciliations.
  • US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards.
  • Represents the organization as a primary resource and subject matter expert for specific tax projects, initiatives, and updates.
  • Coaches, reviews, and delegates work to junior professionals as needed.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field. (Pref.)

Work Experience:

  • 9-12+ Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar field within the Banking or Financial Services Industry
  • 7+ Experience within the Banking and/or Financial Services industry

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge accounting practices and procedures, including US GAAP/IFRS and regulatory reporting standards.
  • Ability to lead, influence and direct peers, subordinates and management.
  • Ability to make effective decision making on complex matters.
  • Ability to convey a sense or urgency and drive.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to handle conflict resolution with other groups (e.g. business units) outside of Corporate Accounting to ensure appropriate accounting guidance is followed.
  • Ability to adjust to new developments/changing circumstances.
  • Ability to interact with senior level management; experience interfacing with multiple levels of the organizational structure.
  • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills required.
  • Strong attention to details and can analyze information quickly.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated and demonstrated experience providing ideas and solutions to further business understanding.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Results oriented; ability to work efficiently and meet strict reporting deadlines.

Working Conditions: Frequent Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing and walking. For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is $175,000-$225,000. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
