What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking Year-Round Undergraduate Technical Interns to join our dynamic team! Sandia's Dept. 5326 - Inertial Systems is looking for versatile student interns that can provide immediate assistance and have interest in learning about inertial sensors, completing assembly, tester, and lab maintenance tasks. The selected applicants will be members of engineering development teams that deliver complex inertial systems which provide present and future capability for a variety of Sandia customers.
On any given day our interns could perform these types of activities:
- Build/rework electrical cables and printed circuit board assemblies
- Assemble/disassemble electronic and mechanical hardware for sensors and test equipment
- Provide operational check on printed circuit boards and cables
- Provide configuration and operation of various test apparatus shaker system, rate table, centrifuge, thermal chamber.
Salary Range:

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Attendance at a local or remote-learning school to be onsite at Sandia NM, per hands-on job responsibilities.
- Experience with mechanical assembly, hand tool usage, measurement, ability to fit check and assemble newly-fabricated hardware
- Experience with MS Office and computer-aided drafting tools.
- Attention to detail and practices per handling of test equipment and critical test hardware.
- Ability to accommodate tasks in and outside of normal work schedule.
- Experience with soldering cables and electronic parts.
- IPC certifications - IPC-A-610, J-STD 001
- Team efficiently with the organization's engineers, technologists, and other interns
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Security Q-Clearance

Sandia's Department 5326 - Inertial Systems develops innovative sensor and electronic subsystems for missiles, air-delivered and ground navigation applications. The work consists of evolving present design efforts, developing prototype and surrogate items, which are tested and characterized in thermal, vibration, shock, various motion, electromagnetic and radiation environments. The organization specializes in engineering development for interface, test and evaluation of inertial sensors for integration into complex electronic and mechanical systems. Members of the organization have varying skills that include expertise in electronics engineering, software design, mechanical modeling and design, and electromechanical fabrication. Our product development involves conceptualization, requirements capture, modeling, detailed design, fabrication, system integration, testing, and data analysis, focused on reliable deliverables for our various customers.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
