What You Will Do

Raytheon is seeking a Software Engineer. The program intends to build a scalable, operational-quality Next Generation Water Resources Modeling Framework, hydrologic and hydraulic model formulations, upgraded Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) capabilities, and an underlying enterprise hydrofabric used in operational National Water Model (NWM) and flood forecasting operations. It is a cornerstone for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Water Prediction (OWP).

  • Performs Enterprise Hydrofabric portions of design, programming, and documentation.
  • Design, develop and deploy Enterprise Hydrofabric in a cloud computing environment running containerized applications.
  • Modifies and builds Enterprise Hydrofabric software and ensures system efficiency and integrity.
  • Analyzes systems requirements and design specifications.
  • Performs conceptual design, detailed design, code, and unit test.
  • Tests, debugs, and refines the computer software to produce the required product.
  • May perform database analysis, design, implementation, and testing

This is a Remote (work-from-home) position, with ability to commute to the Dulles, VA facility, if needed for customer activities. A company computer workstation will be provided for home use.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience or equivalent experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with integrating high-resolution hydrographic, topographic, bathymetric, and channel shape data.
  • Experience using the geospatial datasets at enterprise scale.
  • Experience in applying Open Geospatial Consortium (such as WaterML, HY features, etc.) data standards.
  • Experience participating in large system and subsystem planning sessions.
  • Experience in one or more operating systems, integrated development environments (IDEs), and R and Python programming languages.
  • Experience developing test automation scripts to include automated unit testing, automated regression testing, automated integration, and automated security testing.
  • Experience integrating software (modules, components, subsystems) and conducting system/software integration and testing of software products.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in creating and integrating hydrofabric geospatial representation of perceptual model with metadata.
  • Experience in collecting raw data and information from raw geospatially referenced data supporting NWM and FIM.
  • Software containerization experience using Kubernetes, Singularity and/or Docker.
  • Experienced with command-line interface (CLI) and user interface (UI) to run programs, manage geospatial datasets, and interact with the computer.
  • Experience with Agile/scrum, continuous integration and automated test frameworks.
  • Well versed with Software Development Life Cycle including best practices and procedures.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
