The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and vision across the technical spectrum to bring innovative solutions that create shareholder value and enable our business growth strategies. He or she will lead the engineering function across the organization, ensuring the solutions exceed the expectations of our clients, partners, and stakeholders. The Head of Engineering will establish credibility with key stakeholders and instill a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Your Team
As the Head of Engineering - US Businesses reporting to the Chief Information Officer, Head of Service & Technology, you will partner with Business Technology Officers, Chief Product Owners, Solution Architect Engineers, and an amazing team of colleagues to develop and implement a comprehensive Domain Strategy & Architecture that will serve all our U.S. Businesses and set the technical foundation for the Company's next 150-years. You will collaboratively define a product roadmap identifying business outcomes and solutions that deliver on the strategy to solve sophisticated business problems. As a seasoned technology leader, you will bring excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership attitude to all that you do.

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

  • Actively participate in coding and removal of highly complex technical impediments, demonstrating high-level engineering skills and thought leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers, architects, and partners to ensure the product's quality aligns with business objectives.
  • Specialize in Software Engineering discipline requiring in-depth knowledge and specialized skills in that domain while maintaining fluency in infrastructure, cloud, data, machine learning.
  • Attract, recruit, develop, and mentor top-notch engineering talent.
  • Design and implement new modes of collaboration and communication of technical excellence.
  • Assess the impact and outcome of enterprise-level findings and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Work closely with CTO and CDO teams to ensure the right platforms and capabilities are created.
  • Engage and empower leaders at the enterprise and journey level to solve problems and promote inclusive engagement.
  • Sponsor relevant communities of practice, empower and support CoP leaders to organize events to promote positive change.
  • Create a culture empowering leaders to adopt innovative agile thinking.
  • Play an active role in hiring and evaluating talent, including identifying emerging skills/technologies for development.
  • Ensure alignment of product features and stories, i.e., review, give feedback, and prioritize user stories in line with own vision.
  • Communicate frequently with a variety of stakeholders (including business presidents) to ensure engagement and buy-in on decisions and proposed solutions.
  • Work with Solution Architect Engineers and Tech Leads to build a modular & reusable solutions across all lines of business.
  • Leads discussions and decisions around technology options, direction, and trade-offs

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering; or experience in related fields
  • Expertise in Domain-Driven Design (DDD) in the context of financial services
  • Experience in working with DevOps automation tools & practices
  • Knowledge of full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Lead and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts, and perspectives to the benefit of the organization.
  • Expert knowledge of business concepts tools and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business.
  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an on-going basis through self-initiative and tackling challenges.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills; enjoy learning new skills.

Expertise with several of the following:

  • Effective Communication: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Decision-Making & Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Financial/Business Acumen: Strong knowledge of financial and/or business concepts, tools and processes and how financial metrics are used to monitor and drive outcomes. Includes understanding of company accounts/metrics (ex: balance sheet, profit/loss, cash flow, budget & forecast).
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Agile Methodologies: Knowledge of concept and principles of agile methodology; ability to apply appropriate agile approaches in the processes of software development and delivery.
