Job Description

Global Capabilities is responsible for the design, development, testing and delivery of actuarial modeling solutions across Prudential. This Director, Actuary position will be a Tech Lead role, reporting to the lead of the PyVal+ capabilities team, supporting the expansion of our in house Python based actuarial modeling solution to cover all retail annuities and additional uses beyond valuation such as forecasting, stress testing and pricing. This work also connects to broader transformational efforts across Financial Management. This individual will be a key part of the overall PyVal+ team and will partner closely both with other members of the team as well as broadly across teams, including with Valuation, Pricing, CIO, Technology and others.

The current EWA for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Travel is expected to be no more than 10% of time.

What you can expect:

  • Driving the technical expansion of our in-house PyVal actuarial modeling solution, working closely with the Product Owner to design solutions to ensure delivery against business outcomes along with future scalability.
  • Leading a small team of developers in designing, coding, and testing enhancements to financial projection models and related tools in Python.
  • Supporting end users by providing rapid support to resolve model errors and answer user questions.

What you'll need:

  • Intermediate to expert level Python knowledge, ideally with 3 or more years developing code in Python.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming and software design patterns.
  • Ability to adapt solutions to constraints related to Prudential policies, such as restrictions on available packages and versions as well as constraints related to current architecture and business needs.
  • Superior time management skills and solid ability to handle multiple projects at once with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, specifically being able to explain complicated technical concepts to business users without IT backgrounds.
  • Strong leadership skills to help guide a global Agile team to execute on tight timelines and balance multiple priorities from a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience training, mentoring, and supervising junior developers.

It'd be a plus if you had:

  • Professional actuarial designation strongly preferred (e.g. FSA, FIA or equivalent or potentially ASA).
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies
  • Experience with relevant Python libraries, including pandas, NumPy or PyTorch (emphasis here is on multi-dimensional arrays and parallel compute capabilities rather than machine learning capabilities).
  • Some level of full-stack development experience to be able to support collaboration with UI/UX teams and ensure proper integration with actuarial models.
  • Knowledge of Annuities products.

The salary range for this role is from $160,700.00 to $217,300.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
