Athletic Director

Job Summary:

The Athletic Director oversees all aspects of the interscholastic athletic program across all Propel Schools. The Athletic Director will collaborate with school leaders, coaches, and staff across three high schools and eight middle schools in implementing an interscholastic athletic program that aligns with the educational mission and Habits of Propel Schools.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: Propel provides a competitive salary for the Athletic Director. Relevant prior work experience will be considered when determining placement within our salary range.
  • Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance for new hires moving to the area from 60 miles away or further.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options at a low cost for individual employees and families.
  • Retirement: New hires participate in a 403(b); Propel contributes 5% automatically and matches up to 4%. This increases after 5 years.
  • Paid Leave: In addition to 16-19 paid holidays annually, the Atheletic Director will receive 5 sick days and 10 Personal Days. The Athletic Director will also accrue 6 hours of vacation time per pay period.
  • Tuition Assistance: Reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually upon completion of course and receipt of grades for coursework that meets our eligibility requirements.
  • Wellness Benefit: Reimbursement of $20 per month for wellness activities including Gym Memberships, health programs, etc. Additionally, staff have the ability to earn up to $300 for participation in a Wellness Program each year.
  • Professional Development: At Propel, we believe in supporting staff growth and provide substantial school-based and network-wide professional development support for all staff. The Athletic Director will participate in Professional Development throughout the school year.
  • Leadership & Career Development: Leadership opportunities are extensive at Propel, both in and outside of the classroom. There are opportunities for additional school-based leadership roles.

Key Job Elements:

  • Manages one assistant and over 50+ coaches.
  • Recruits and manages all athletic coaching staff.
    • Develops a thorough hiring process using Propel Habits and athletic standards to ensure proper hiring practices
    • Works with Propel HR and Talent to document the process and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Onboards new coaches
    • Utilizing Propel Habits, ensure all coaches have a full understanding of all expectations
  • Collaborates with the Operations department on facility needs and upgrades as well as scheduling and use of athletic facilities.
  • Working with central departments and school leaders, develops policies and procedures relating to the implementation and management of all athletic programs.
  • Schedules all boys and girls athletic contests with a focus on high school athletics and coordinates the supervision of all athletic events including transportation for the events.
  • Conducts all preseason sports meetings and reinforces expectations for all athletes, families and fans
  • Oversees the scheduling of staff and other athletic event workers.
    • Follows documented processes of facility and van usage across Propel
  • Collaborates with the Communication Team on the development of press releases, maintenance of the athletic website, and social media engagement.
  • Ensures all schools meet WPIAL and PIAA guidelines and communicates those guidelines to coaches, students and principals.
  • Responsible for conducting student-athlete academic reviews weekly
  • Collaborates with the Finance Department on the development of an annual budget and its implementation.
  • Ensures that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Handles all accidents and injuries in accordance with school policies, and applicable laws and regulations, including reporting and documentation requirements.
  • Maintains records and documents, as required and necessary, to ensure proper documentation of athletic program activities, events, participation, and related information for the purpose of complying with school policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for the management of parent-booster organizations.
  • Responsible for developing partnerships with external athletic organizations and programs.
  • Responsible for carrying out all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

  1. Minimum education required: Masters in Athletic Administration and/or Sport Medicine. A masters in education with relevant experience in Athletics will also be considered
  2. Years of experience: Minimum of 2 years experience with supporting WPIAL and PIAA interscholastic programs
  3. Licenses Required: First Aid, Safety, & CPR, Valid driver's license

List qualifications/skills needed to handle the responsibilities of the position.

  • Must possess a general knowledge of coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of each sport.
  • High level of personal organization and planning.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills with student-athletes, coaches, & families.
  • Strong ability to foster partnerships with outside organizations.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
  • A commitment to the mission and Promising Principles of Propel Schools.

Preferred:

  • Licenses Preferred: Certified ASEP Instructor of Coaching Principles and Sports First Aid, BOC Athletic Trainer.
