Sr. (Lead) Quantitative Analyst I (II)

The Senior (Lead) Quantitative Analyst I (II) position provides energy market fundamental analysis, and quantitative financial modeling support to Risk Management. This will involve understanding PJM transmission system topology, security-constraint, least-cost unit commitment and dispatch and other factors affecting the energy market, energy market trading exposure modeling and market scenario analysis using production cost models and energy market financial analysis, modeling and estimating market participant exposures and preparing deductive summary reports and insights of cause and effect including financial impacts, stress test assessments and conclusions. This position interacts closely with all departments within Risk Management and various departments across PJM's Markets and Operations divisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with engineering team to configure, test and maintain energy production cost models and analysis for PJM.
  • Perform quantitative energy risk modeling, analyze and discuss various assumptions, inputs, fundamental, statistical and analytical data.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to explain and discuss model outputs and conclusions with senior management and collaboration teams.
  • Perform energy market exposure calculations, simulations and results analysis .
  • Develop a solid understanding of the energy market trading products, market rules and processes and implement solutions based on that understanding.
  • Compile, prepare and analyze various statistical/analytical data, reports, studies or projects.
  • Perform quantitative financial impact analysis on market participant portfolios deduced from results of power flow model
  • Perform market analysis, develop metrics and insights to support market and credit risk assessment.
  • Interact regularly with leadership and cross functional teams to understand strategic planning and operational changes.
  • Perform data mining functions.
  • Technical Skills: Production Cost model Simulation software, statistical software, and computer programming

Qualifications & Characteristics:
Required:


  • BS degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or equivalent work experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in the industry with experience using power system modeling
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial engineering in energy industry
  • At least 5 years of experience with Dayzer power system modeling an advantage
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support

Preferred:

  • MS degree in Engineering, Finance, Mathematics or PhD., Engineering
  • At least 8 years of experience with PJM markets including FTRs, ARRs, Virtual Bids and RPM
  • At least 8 years of experience with programming in SQL, SAS, C++, Python or Alteryx
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
  • Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program)
