Position Summary

The Program Associate (PA), Dissemination & Implementation, will provide essential support for the program's funding initiatives and other activities. The PA's work requires a commitment to the program's goals of promoting the uptake of high-quality evidence in practice, the ability to critically assess project proposals, and strong organizational skills. The Program Associate works independently, with guidance, and collaboratively to develop and carry out activities in the following main areas: project management, contribution to the application review process, contract management, and project analysis. The Program Associate assists in designing and improving program initiatives, evaluating funding proposals, and monitoring programs and awards. In addition, the PA supports the work of the team in D&I initiatives and projects complementing or supporting the funding initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

General Program Responsibilities:

  • Participate in pre-award processes and reviews for the D&I Program Funding Initiatives.
  • Administer funded projects, including project management, analysis, tracking, and correspondence, in collaboration with PCORI departments including Contracts Management, Finance, Engagement, and Communications.
  • Support other ongoing initiatives and projects of the D&I Program. Represent the team in in cross-department workgroups.
  • Provide administrative or project management support for D&I team tasks as requested, including coordinating and managing internal and external meetings, workgroups, and webinars, and preparing meeting summaries.
  • Contribute to the design and development of D&I Program initiatives or special projects in collaboration with the D&I team.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Review letters of intent submitted for D&I Program funding initiatives for programmatic fit and responsiveness; synthesize comments in well-written summaries.
  • Attend merit review meetings; contribute to programmatic discussions and evaluation of applications.
  • Review and propose milestones for, and monitor progress of, funded projects. Ensure appropriate documentation and status reporting of projects.
  • Respond to inquiries from PCORI-funded investigators, or triage as appropriate. Collaborate with Program Officers to proactively identify any areas of concern and assist in developing remediation plans.
  • Work with other program staff to prepare materials for Board or subcommittee meetings, including slides and briefs.
  • Assist with implementing and improving PCORI's processes for funding awards, processes for other activities related to the translation, dissemination, and implementation of findings, and policies of PCORI.

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including ability to think independently, work with minimal supervision and take ownership of projects, prioritize tasks, and provide consistent and reliable follow up.
  • Ability to produce polished, quality work products that demonstrate a high-level of attention to detail;
  • Excellent written communication skills both for routine internal or external communication purposes;
  • Excellent analytic skills and ability to synthesize and translate complex material into clear and simple language. Ability to read and interpret research articles published in professional journals.
  • Ability to make decisions, justify recommendations, and be responsive and clear with proposal applicants;
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment; excellent interpersonal skills, collegial, energetic, able to develop productive relationships with team, other colleagues across PCORI, and awardees;
  • Personally motivated to support PCORI's mission and goals; work independently and in teams to think imaginatively about opportunities; to create and respond to novel and innovative approaches to addressing an issue; to inspire others to work towards achieving team goals;
  • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally;
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and change; flexibility and ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Quantitative research training helpful but not required.
  • Proficient in the use of technology and electronic communications skills.

Required Experience
• Master's degree in a related field (e.g., MPH, MPA, MPP; or MBA) or its equivalent with two (2) to four (4) years of related work experience preferred. Applicants with advanced academic or professional credentials, more extensive relevant health research experience, and/or experience working in a funding organization/agency may be considered for Senior Program Associate roles.
• Experience in health or health care organization is highly desirable.
• Experience or knowledge working in a funding organization or health services research organization is desirable.
• Knowledge of implementation science and/or practice is desirable.
