Cloud Implementation Architect (Microsoft Azure)

Richmond, VA

This position will be the principal architect for Optiv + ClearShark's Managed Services offering with a specialized focus on Microsoft Azure. The Cloud Implementation Architect will be focused on driving technical innovation while implementing pre-designed architectures from the customer. This role will be expected to lead the operations and maintenance of the Azure infrastructure to ensure high availability for the customer. This position will also be enabled to design custom architectures for expanded offerings. The Cloud Implementation Architect will be responsible for reporting to senior leadership on any degradation of service found within the cloud infrastructure, to include forecasting potential degradations based on system metrics. This position should be prepared to communicate effectively with leadership and other team members on a day-to-day basis to provide updates on the health of the customer's infrastructure. This role will also be expected to cross-train in other cloud service providers, as well as providing training to an Architect focused on other cloud service providers, to provide backfill capabilities in the event of an Tier 3 response.

How you'll make an impact

  • Designing and implementing various components which are offered by Microsoft Azure; to include Virtual Machines, Blob Storage, Virtual Hard Disks, Azure Virtual Networks, Security Groups, and other relevant technologies
  • Maintaining cloud services to ensure maximum uptime while also optimizing for performance and cost
  • Building infrastructure in compliance with Infrastructure-as-Code requirements; to include Terraform, Ansible, Azure Resource Manager, and other relevant tools
  • Utilizing CI/CD pipelines to ensure code effectiveness and quality, as well as providing team members with the ability to review code entering production
  • Documenting processes effectively for team members to reference for future builds, ensuring infrastructures are built to an Optiv + ClearShark standard
  • Monitoring system health for service degradation and building plans for efficient remediation
  • Implementing pre-designed architectures based on customer requirements, while also designing custom architectures for future offerings
  • Utilizing effective communication skills to collaborate with internal Microsoft Azure support teams when troubleshooting Azure service matters
  • Responding to service desk tickets on an as needed basis in the event of a Tier 3 response
  • Supporting fellow Cloud Implementation Architects in troubleshooting service degradation issues and assisting with role responsibilities in the event of a Tier 3 response

  • As Optiv + ClearShark's Managed Services offering grows, this individual will be expected to hold team lead responsibilities; to include task management and delegation, leading Scrum processes, and reporting to senior leadership on team member functions

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years working in an Microsoft Azure-based infrastructure
  • 1-3 years leading an Azure-based infrastructure
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • 2-3 years working with Terraform, Ansible, and other Infrastructure-as-Code technologies
  • 3-5 years administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), or other RHEL-based operating systems
  • Experience with designing, architecting, and implementing Azure-based infrastructures in accordance with customer requirements
  • TS/SCI with CI polygraph, full-scope polygraph preferred
