Senior Manager, Pharmacy

Job Description


Manages the department's activities. Supervises the activities of the Pharmacy, establishes work assignments, recommends and evaluates policies and procedures. Responsible for scheduling staff, coordinates interdepartmental and intra-departmental activities, coordinates inventory management activities, coordinates investigational drug activities, acts as a preceptor for Pharmacy students and performs related activities as assigned.


Job Responsibility


  • Provides leadership to Pharmacy team members, supervisors, and managers by communicating and guiding toward achieving department objectives.

  • Develops, communicates, and builds consensus for goals in alignment with the health system.

  • Evaluates, recommends and implements approved policies and procedures using knowledge of related laws governing the profession and departmental goals and objectives.

  • Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of staff; ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.

  • Participates in hospital committees established to identify the needs of patients and the scope of pharmaceutical services required to meet those needs.

  • Participates in department's Quality Assurance Coordinating Group and its initiatives.

  • Coordinates pharmacy operations commensurate with the scope of services provided and the identified needs of patients.

  • Recommends necessary space, equipment and supplies in order for the department to provide quality and comprehensive services.

  • Evaluates the scope of services provided and adequately schedules the pharmacy staff to provide those services effectively and in a timely manner.

  • Analyzes, recommends, implements, and monitors approved work-flow changes.

  • Participates in determining adequate staffing levels.

  • Job Qualification


    • Bachelor of Pharmacy required.

    • Current License to practice as a Pharmacist in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

    • 6-10 years of relevant experience and 5-7 years of leadership / management experience, required.
