Job Description
Provides support to physician performing invasive cardiovascular procedures. Ensures quality control of all equipment and performs special procedures involving injection of intravenous contrast such as angiograms, coronary, as well as peripheral biopsies, angioplasties, stenting, etc. Integrates well with physicians and nurses and has responsibility for emergency call.
Job Responsibility
- Performs a variety of duties to prepare unit for cardiac catheterization or other invasive as well as non-invasive procedures.
- Prepares sterile trays for invasive procedures.
- Ensures all instrumentation/equipment for each procedure is presented on table in established fashion.

- Admits patient by entering data into computer system.
- Ensures patients are correctly prepped and draped in a sterile fashion.
- Responds to patient's questions alleviating concerns regarding procedure.
- Monitors patient during procedure, i.e., electrocardiogram, blood pressure, chest pain. May administer oxygen and nitroglycerin, as needed, under direct supervision of physician performing procedure.
- Collects all pertinent diagnostic data and all necessary calculations for physician's interpretation of results. Correctly balances, calibrates and records appropriate hemodynamic data. Performs blood gas determinations using oximeter method while handling blood in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Assists in handling emergencies until physician takes over.
- Interacts with health care team appropriately.

Job Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Cardio Respiratory Science or related field required to ensure knowledge of Cardiovascular System, Anatomy and Physiology. OR Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiovascular Technology AND Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), required. OR Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology AND current NYS Radiologic Technologist License, required.
- BCLS and ACLS, required.
- Certification in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, preferred.
