Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that offers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases.
C2BMC acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a vital part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.
This position is for a Software Engineer on the C2BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for developing software in Java for one of the Regional Applications teams in Huntsville (Battle Management, System-Arch, or Track Server). Under guidance, provides specialized expertise across multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as broad knowledge of related fields, application impacts, and customer areas.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for performing detailed analysis and offering technical support for systems software products, including complex problem solving, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
Maintains software products current, debugs, and configure related systems
Develops or modifies operating system applications based on specifications
Supports design, coding, benchmarking, debugging, and documenting programs.
Work with other system support teams to resolve issues, set standards, and enhance the overall efficiency of the operating system
Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools to automate operations
Participates in most phases of software systems programming applications and may need minimal guidance in other phases
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of experience; Or 6 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree may be considered
Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
Knowledge of software practices such as:
Coding standards
Automated testing
Automated build pipelines
Configuration management
Familiarity with problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance and operational issues, identify the root cause, and recommend, design, and implement solutions
Familiarity with common software development and management tools such as:
Maven
git/GitHub
Nexus
Eclipse
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts:
Use Cases and SysML diagrams
Good working knowledge of MS Office products
Knowledge of software engineering and software development with Java/J2EE experience or alternative object-oriented development experience
Strong oral, written, and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
Willingness to take on unanticipated tasking
Must have the ability to work independently and show poise and flexibility to succeed in a highly dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Agile development methodologies
Experience in developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience is also desired)
Development of command and control system applications
Experience in Software Integration and Formal Testing
Knowledge and experience in implementing Cyber Security/RMF requirements
Ability to explain complex concepts to non-software professionals, including senior program and military leaders
Experience in performance modeling
Experience with microservices
Experience with DevSecOps and/or build management

Salary Range: $85,400.00 - $128,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
