This position, Principal Engineer Software/Senior Principal Engineer Software is focused on securing software infrastructure, operating systems hardening and network security as a software assurance architect.
Responsibilities will include deploying, automating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the systems and software infrastructure for rapid deployment and maintainability of the infrastructure. Software containerization, securing applications, Operating System hardening and network security, deploying, automating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the systems and software infrastructure for rapid deployment and maintainability of the infrastructure fall under this position. You will be required to have hands-on technical experience with virtualization, environment automation and management, and continuous improvements experience. You will be expected to take ownership of hard problems and drive toward a solution, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment. You will be required to develop, modify, and maintain customized or standardized applications using software engineering best practices and standards, and participate in the full life cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.
The Software Engineer will apply technical expertise in solving complex integrations problems. The ideal candidate will have the ability to take ownership of hard problems and drive to a solution, while working in a team environment and provide leadership for its implementation. It is critical that you understand the software development life cycle and have an in-depth knowledge of automated testing to facilitate and analyze large data sets. The Software Engineer will interact with Program Management, external suppliers and/or government customers. Therefore, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are required. A solid experience in bash scripting, C/C++, or other OOP languages, in a Linux environment is required. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and Special Program Access is required.
The selected individual will play a critical role in the design, development, and delivery of the program's deployment strategy and network architecture.
Essential Functions:

Work closely with engineers and technicians in a lab environment
Advise on integration of new emerging industry technologies to the program's systems
Implement engineering changes to the system as required
Review, analyze, and incorporate technical requirements into end-to-end system architectures
Responsible for implementing the network configurations as designed, and coordinating with peers, SMEs, and government engineers on hardening and securing of the system as a whole
Occasional travel may be required
Willingness to work Temporary/short-term off-peak hours assignments for time constrained HW/SW integration efforts
Full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software
Work with various team members to integrate functionality with other software components.
Ability to lead a team and /or provide leadership to drive solutions of complex problems.
Ensure software best practices are followed.
Develop software products from all phases of the software lifecycle.
Providing technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with programs objectives.
Contributing to the full life cycle of system development in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. This includes requirements development, modeling and design, application development, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance
Meeting milestones and deadlines by providing best in class solutions
Develop and share technical documentation and presentations
Adhering to and following roadmaps, plans, and schedules
Working closely with the software lead(s) following their guidance
Basic Qualifications:

Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 or more years software engineering experience, or Master's degree and 3 or more years' software engineering experience or a PhD with 0 or more years software engineering experience.
Senior Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 8 or more years software engineering experience, or Master's degree and 6 or more years' software engineering experience or a PhD with 4 or more years software engineering experience.
Ability to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems.
In-depth working knowledge of the full software development life cycle.
In-depth working knowledge with the Agile software development process.
In-depth working knowledge and experience with C/C++, Java, Rust(preferred), or other OOP languages.
Experience implementing and developing in containers.
Knowledge of microservices architectures.
Expert knowledge and experience developing software in a Linux and Windows environment.
Experience with configuration management using industry standard tools and processes.
Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite, plugins, Git and Confluence
Experience with Firewall, VPN, switch, and router configuration
Experience with authentication and data encryption methods, to include securing communications at either the datalink or network layer
Active certification at DOD 8570 IAT Level II (Security+)
Ability to work well across multiple engineering disciplines.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government DOD Secret Clearance
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain special program access
Preferred Qualifications:

In-scope DoD Top Secret clearance with a program PAR
Experience building, deploying, and maintaining microservices architectures in Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments
Experience with containerization technology (e.g. Podman, Docker)
Experience with container orchestration systems (e.g. Kubernetes)
Experience with virtualization technology (e.g. VirtualBox, QEMU, KVM, vmWare)
Experience with network security (SELinux, CIPSO, SECMARK)
Experience with multilevel security solutions
Experience with configuration and management of Cisco, Palo Alto, or Juniper network appliances
Experience with the NCDSMO cybersecurity standards
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Atlassian tools
Experience applying commercial products to military applications.
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques and tools.
Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00Salary Range 2: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
