Lead Bioinformatics Scientist

POSITION SUMMARY

Natera is currently seeking a Lead Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Bioinformatics Research & Development team with a focus on cancer early detection. Natera's mission is to change the management of disease worldwide by using information gained from a simple blood draw to detect disease early and proactively inform treatment. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in algorithm development, genomics, sequencing data processing, and/or applied machine learning. The individual will develop novel algorithms and lead the analysis of large and complex genomics data sets to enable early cancer detection.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, implement, and validate innovative algorithms and statistical methods to analyze large-scale data sets based on insights in cancer biology and genomics
  • Collaborate with molecular biologists and clinical scientists to come up with creative research strategies that solve challenging problems in oncology
  • Contribute to experimental design and quality control
  • Act as technical lead during various phases of research and product development
  • Mentor and train other bioinformatics scientists
  • Work with our team of scientists to answer specific biological questions

QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the bioinformatics field
  • Track-record of leading and developing state-of-the-art and highly impactful computational methods or highly cited publications
  • Highly experienced in algorithm development, data analysis, and statistical learning
  • Familiar with public databases such as TCGA, COSMIC, or OncoKB
  • Deep understanding of sequencing data
  • Experience in Python
  • Experience using Linux command-line tools and writing shell scripts
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Ability to visualize findings and summarize results in oral and written form
  • High scientific rigor and eager to teach and learn about new computational methods and biology

  • This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
