Join the Broadcast Engineering team at Major League Baseball and play a key role in the testing, planning, commissioning, and support of hardware and software infrastructure for MLB and MiLB streaming platforms, as well as distribution to domestic and international partners.
We are seeking a candidate with a functional knowledge of broadcast video systems and technologies and a functional understanding of IP networking. You will collaborate with third-party vendors, internal teams including Broadcast Operations, Software Engineering, Systems, and Networking to build and support broadcast systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, test, document, modify and troubleshoot hardware and software related to video and network devices and services
- Review nightly engineering reports and process requests for follow up support
- Coordinate with and assist the Venue Technology team to troubleshoot MLB broadcast related hardware and software at Ballparks
- Provide Tier 2 support of video transmission systems, including routing, encoding, decoding, and associated hardware and software infrastructure
- Be available nights and weekends as part of an on-call rotation
- Monitor, analyze and rectify technical faults in a variety of broadcast systems
- Testing and evaluating hardware and software for future projects
- Perform commissioning of broadcast systems, including software configurations
- Create configuration and operational guides for hardware and software
- Support and assist in integration of broadcast system updates at remote locations
- Perform preventative maintenance and updates of broadcast systems
- Work directly with other departments and vendors to resolve technical issues
- Provide regular status and system update reports to management

Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 5 years experience in a Broadcast Engineering role
- Practical knowledge of industry standards including SDI, ST 2110, Mpeg TS, SRT, Dante, h264, h265, JPEG XS, etc.
- Proficiency with professional broadcast systems such as routers, switchers, multiviewers, encoders, decoders, or similar
- Functional knowledge of IP networking
- Ability to communicate effectively about technical issues
- Ability to to create easily understandable documentation on new and existing systems
- Ability to read CAD and signal flow drawings
- Ability to create basic signal flow diagrams
- Occasional travel to remote sites such as ballparks and data centers
- Ability to work in standard equipment racks
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Experience with scripting/programming languages relevant to broadcast systems and automation (e.g., Python, JavaScript).
- Experience with API integration (REST, potentially GQL) for connecting broadcast equipment and services.
- Familiarity with database concepts (SQL or NoSQL) for managing broadcast-related data.
- Exposure to monitoring and alerting tools, including experience with Prometheus and Grafana
Pay Range: $85,000- $100,000
As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
