Software Engineer, Camera Driver

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented engineer to join our Camera and Sensor Software team, with a demonstrated experience with low-level development of camera drivers, sensor integration, and HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) components. This position plays a critical role in bringing up camera hardware, enabling sensor functionality, and ensuring seamless end-to-end imaging performance on embedded platforms for MR devices.As part of the team, you will work closely with silicon vendors, board design engineers, and platform teams to bring up and debug camera sensors (such as image sensors, time-of-flight sensors, IR sensors, etc.) at the register and protocol level (I2C, MIPI CSI). You will develop and maintain kernel-mode device drivers for camera and imaging sensors, ensuring proper initialization, calibration, power sequencing, and performance.You will also be responsible for implementing and extending the Camera HAL, bridging the gap between low-level hardware drivers and higher-level frameworks such as Android Camera API. This is a hands-on engineering role that offers the opportunity to work on the camera stack which is key to MR devices & experiences.

Software Engineer, Camera Driver Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain kernel-mode camera and sensor drivers. Configure sensor registers and manage initialization sequences (power-up, reset, clock, etc.)
  • Implement and extend the Camera HAL, enabling higher-level APIs
  • Bring-up and integration of camera sensors (e.g., RGB, ToF, IR) on embedded hardware platforms
  • Optimize camera pipeline performance (latency, bandwidth, memory usage, thermal, etc.) & debug camera bring-up issues
  • Collaborate with ISP, tuning, and application teams to validate sensor tuning and image quality
  • Participate in board-level diagnostics, factory calibration routines, and production readiness validation
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years software development experience in industry settings or PhD with 4+ Years of Experience
  • 3+ years relevant camera software engineering experience in industry settings
  • Experience developing and debugging in C/C++
  • Experience leading large or complex projects, defined goals and delivered milestones by leading teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Qualcomm, MediaTek, or NVIDIA Jetson camera stack and SoC-specific drivers
  • Embedded, Linux kernel development, and device driver programming
  • Understanding and experience working with Camera HALs, and camera service layers
  • Knowledge of image signal processing pipelines and tuning workflows (e.g., Auto Exposure, Auto Focus, Auto White Balance)
  • Solid understanding of embedded hardware debugging, register-level programming, and low-level interfaces (I2C, SPI, GPIO, clocks)
  • Hands-on expertise with camera sensor bring-up, including Inter-Integrated Circuit configuration and Camera Serial Interface etc

$85.10/hour to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
