Capacity Engineering, Efficiency

Meta relies on data to make informed decisions, particularly in the areas of Meta Capacity Management, efficiency, and ROI analysis. To address this critical company-wide business needs, the Capacity Utilization Efficiency and Observability team focuses the following critical areas: resource and usage data acquisition, defining/transforming/managing capacity shapes and compute abstractions, data foundation platforms for efficiency/utilization analytics and insights, and metrics correlated with workload performance behaviors to enable efficiency opportunities.

Capacity Engineering, Efficiency Responsibilities:

  • Explore, Analyze and Define Efficiency opportunities
  • Partner with customers and execute projects to drive business impact
  • Scale the largest web capacity in the world
  • Work with Product Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, and Data Engineering teams to find the optimal way to scale the infrastructure
  • Own end-to-end product design, launch, and operation: Support the design and development of novel performance tooling and infrastructure
  • Tackle the state-of-the-art hardware/software performance issues: Analyze and debug difficult server performance issues (latest in industry), identify bottlenecks and optimize product/service performance to improve user experience
  • Solve the hardest software performance issues: Work with software developers closely to improve code base performance (e.g. algorithm redesign), reduce resource consumption and shorten request latency
  • Develop the coolest tools to monitor billions of user requests: monitoring, reporting, data-mining tools to do performance and capacity-related tests and analysis
  • Provide visibility to what is going on for all products: Run capacity and performance experiments to determine scaling and utilization parameters for various service tiers
  • Find the game changers and bring them on: Work across engineering function to develop cutting-edge technologies for performance analysis and remediation
  • A lot of other cool work: Identify capacity-related issues proactively and work with systems, network, application operations and engineering teams to discover resolutions
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in coding & scripting languages such as C, C++, C #, Java, PHP or Python or a PhD in related field
  • experience in performance or Capacity engineering
  • Experience working with distributed systems at scale
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in infrastructure operations and technical infrastructure knowledge
  • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, or other technical field

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
