Job Description:
This job is responsible for handling moderately complex operations processes related to credit disputes, escalations and tax reporting. Key responsibilities include analysis, research, reconciliation, reporting data validation and resolution of issues and identified customer requests which may carry high levels of risk within enterprise risk categories. Job expectations include handling moderately complex transaction processing, reconciliation, and resolution of research requests to clients, consumer reporting agencies or taxing authorities, consulting with management for support.

Consumer Wealth Tax Operations, a department within NFRR Tax Credit Reporting Operations (NTCO), is responsible for multiple tax related functions to support Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and State regulatory required tax reporting and withholding payments, on behalf of consumer and wealth clients within Merrill, Private Bank, Retirement & Personal Wealth Solutions and Investment Solutions Group.
The Tax Operations Payment, Filings & Solicitation Team is responsible for the daily reconciliation and tax withholding payment remittances to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and States for Retirement, Retail and Non-Resident accounts, ensuring the accurate and timely payment on behalf of multiple legal entities. The Associate will handle these payments as well as address withholding inquiries, processing tax withholding reversals and manual withholding adjustments to be in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Associate will also assist with tax remediations or any other team initiatives as needed working within and outside the team.

Principle Accountabilities:
§ Preparation and review of payment packets, gathering all necessary documentation to evidence accuracy and completeness
§ Adherence to specific regulated payment schedules and time deadlines to ensure compliance with federal and/or state regulations.
§ Reviewing, researching and responding to branch inquires in relation to withholding via email or Service Request Portal (SRP), adhering to strict service level standards.
§ Reviewing and researching tax withholding reports and monthly reconciliations
§ Processing manual tax withholding adjustments
§ Reconcile withholding ledgers through various system checks and balances to establish daily, weekly, quarterly and/or annual liability positions
§ Support year end initiatives and any tax withholding remediation initiatives
§ Support legal entity summary filings with the IRS, solicitations for tax forms, handling IRS correspondence regarding refunds and penalties
§ Metrics reporting and Quality Assurance Peer Reviews
§ Collaborate with management and teams within and outside Tax Operations on process enhancements
§ Tasks might be assigned as needed contingent to the team's work load.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs moderately complex activities supporting credit disputes, escalations, and tax reporting while following established written procedures and guidelines and ensuring accurate and timely delivery
  • Researches and resolves moderately complex financial data requests or exceptions based on analysis of assembled data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Performs routine analytics, report creation, and exception processing
  • Identifies risk and opportunities for process improvement based on an understanding the work impacts other operational units and escalates risk concerns, as appropriate
  • Provides quality service and support for internal business partners and external clients

Pay range

$24.00 - $35.22 hourly pay, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.
