Install, monitor, maintain and support operating software of a more complex level for the production zOS and z/VM environment that are required to run the McLane business operational units. Conducts tests and evaluates operating software performance as part of larger projects and installations with Systems Programmers or Applications Programmer teams. Receives limited supervision and direction.

This is a hybrid position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office three days a week. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Temple, TX.

Essential Job Functions/Principal Accountabilities:
Other duties may be assigned. A teammate in this position must have the ability to:
- Conducts more specialized and complex testing and evaluates software performance as assigned by Lead Systems Programming teammates as part of large and/or less clearly-defined projects and installations of hardware and software.
- Evaluates specialized applications used by Application Programming teams by conducting complex tests for proper design and implementation of new applications within the zOS and z/VM environments.
- Install the required release of IBM and third-party software that is used in test and production environments by downloading software, conducting initial testing and submitting upgrades to other IT teams for evaluation in test environment.
- Monitor system performance to ensure the correct performance level is maintained to keep CPU utilization in production environments at efficient levels.
- Evaluates software design and implement changes to improve the efficiency of the applications using the test environment.
- Provide on-call support after business hours on a rotating basis by monitoring system performance and responding to issues arising from the operating systems; perform system maintenance activities during the Maintenance Window.
Minimum Skills & Qualifications:
A teammate in this position must:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field.
- 5 or more years experience with zOS Operating systems and the hardware associated with those platforms.
- Experience with z/VM and zLinux.
- Ability to meet physical demands which are defined as exerting 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to provide on-call support after normal business hours and on weekends on a rotating basis.
- Ability to participate in onsite system maintenance on an occasional basis on Saturday evenings.
