The Opportunity:

We’re seeking an experienced Investigator and compliance professional to partner with other Legal, Internal Audit, Global Security, and Human Resources stakeholders on investigatory and compliance matters in APAC. This position will report to the VP, Global Ethics and Compliance in the Law Department and partner closely with our Senior Director, Global Investigations & Employee Relations as well as Mattel managers, employment law, Global security, and HR to uphold Mattel’s culture and values, ensure employee advocacy, and mitigate risk. The position can be based in Hong Kong, or Shanghai.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Conduct thorough, timely and objective investigations in response to employee concerns and allegations of violations of Company policies or laws, including global anti-corruption, fraud, financial improprieties, conflicts of interest, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other ethics and compliance inquiries.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners, business leaders, legal counsel, and other cross-functional stakeholders as necessary to reach an effective resolution to APAC employee matters.
  • Partner with business partners in legal and other functions on investigations relating to security, internal audit, finance and intellectual property, among other areas.
  • Use sound judgement to produce clear, concise, and fact-based investigation notes, memos, and reports.
  • Lead formal reviews and report outs on investigations, presenting findings and proposed resolutions.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • In partnership with HR Business Partners, objectively coach APAC employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
  • Ensure that all matters are entered and updated in Mattel’s centralized case management system.
  • Serve as a member of Mattel’s Ethics Committee and serve as the primary point person for all APAC EthicsPoint submissions and HR-related complaints escalated from business leaders and HR partners.
  • Develop, direct and/or manage key compliance programs, policies and local procedures in the region.
  • Partner closely with business leaders to advance a culture of integrity and compliance throughout business teams and organizations.
  • Maintain an understanding of key compliance risks relevant to Mattel businesses in Asia and partner with business leaders to assess risks and support development of risk mitigation strategies and tactics.
  • Facilitate and conduct compliance training on business compliance, relevant laws and Company policies and procedures, including FCPA, and the Company’s Anti-Bribery Procedures and conflict of interest policies. 

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, must have a minimum of 8+ years’ experience in MNCs conducting end-to-end investigations into complex employee matters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with diverse audiences, from executive and corporate office employees to hourly direct labor in retail, plants, distribution centers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships with other business functions, and partner cross-functionally across a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Experience managing difficult conversations, interactions, and interviews.
  • Deep understanding of APAC employment laws, Global Anti-Corruption laws, regulations, financial practices, and business practices.  
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and projects, and to prioritize effectively – oriented on results.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Experience managing difficult conversations and interactions and conducting non-confrontational interviews. 
  • Exceptional integrity and demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.
  • One or more key fluent Asian language skills preferable from Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian/Malaysian Bahasa, or Thai in addition to fluent English.
