About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Database Engineering to lead our database team. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and strong people management skills. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of our database systems, managing stakeholders, cost, quality, compliances while also managing and mentoring a team of database engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Responsibilities:
• Lead the design, development, and optimization of database architectures to ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Oversee the implementation of database solutions, including data modeling, schema design, and query optimization.
• Ensure the security and integrity of database systems through best practices and compliance with industry standards.
• Collaborate with software development teams to integrate database solutions into applications and services.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues, providing timely resolutions and improvements.
• Stay updated with the latest database technologies and trends, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.
• Manage scale and capacity keeping operational state healthy
People Managerial Responsibilities:
• Manage and mentor a team of database engineers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing.
• Set clear goals and expectations for the team, conducting regular performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback.
• Develop and implement training programs to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of the team.
• Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication on database-related projects.
• Lead recruitment efforts to attract and retain top talent in the field of database engineering.
Strategy Responsibilities:
• Define strategy for team incorporating inputs from application, infrastructure, security, regions and markets and define yearly sustained goals
• Drive group towards achieving goals and identify bottlenecks
• Articulate strategic vision to wider stakeholders
• Develop talent plan utilizing upskilling and cross skilling methodologies
• Develop strong partnership with stakeholder ecosystem and cocreate roadmaps
• Build new while sustaining the current infrastructure

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in database engineering, with a strong background in SQL, NoSQL, and cloud-based database solutions.
• Skilled in Postgres or Cassandra with nice to have skills in Oracle and Redis
• Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with experience in managing and mentoring technical teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in database technologies.
