Arkansas Lighthouse Academies (ALA) Athletic Director helps transform children's lives by being an expert and knowledgeable of overall operations of the athletic program. This individual will promote, support, supervise, manage, direct, and provide leadership for the total athletic programs at all levels in the district and ensure exemplary opportunities and experiences for all participating scholars. We are seeking a director who will commit to work with determination, integrity, and purpose. They enhance a culture of achievement and respect where high expectations and results are the norm. The director is responsible for the successful implementation of the athletic program which is aligned and remains second to the education model (aligned to state standards) and interventions that result in measurable scholar academic gains each year. The director's actions must always be aligned with the mission, vision, core values and goals of the education program. The essential functions for our athletic director are as follows:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assists principal in supervision of coaches and others involved in school athletic programs

• Provide overall leadership, supervision and coordination of all sports programs to provide students worthwhile learning

• Reports to the Superintendent and works with the high school and Middle School principal to supervise the overall athletic program

• Administers all school district interscholastic policies and procedures as well as the Rules and By-Laws of the State Association

• Observes coaches sufficiently in order to make future recommendations in terms of job expectations and job assignments

• Evaluates all coach candidates for original appointments

• Makes recommendations for the improvement of facilities to the superintendent of schools for consideration and referral

• Develops all interscholastic game schedules

• Maintain contest contract forms in school files and approves the publication of all schedules

• Contracts all contest officials including those assigned by the conference

• Interprets board policy to coaches-

• Resolves conflicts within the ranks of the athletic department

• Seeks ways to support and finance the athletic program

• Submits financial reports to the Superintendent at the end of each school year

• Makes arrangements for all interscholastic transportation, lodging and meals, as required

• Receives and evaluates equipment requests from authorized coaches

• Attends all home athletic contests and/or arranges for proper supervision

• Coordinate attendance of administrative personnel

• Acts as tournament manager for all league and tournament playoff activities that are assigned to the school district

• Sends reminders of upcoming events to schools and officials Cancels or postpones contracted contests, officials and transportation because of weather or other hazardous conditions

• Coordinates and supervises all radio and television broadcasts, as well as the public address system operation at the various games Maintains a permanent file of medical examinations, insurance forms, records, parent consent forms, insurance payments, emergency treatment forms, etc., for each participating athlete

• Maintains permanent records for each sport, such as wins and losses, outstanding records, letter winners, etc.

• Maintains a file of all athletic suspensions and expulsions from teams

• Determines scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams on a weekly/grading period/semester basis and for certifying their eligibility on the proper state forms

• Reviews, makes recommendations and forwards coaches' requests to attend coaching clinics at school expense

• Works with coaches and the district administration to develop the annual athletic budget

• Works with the principals, cheerleading advisors and coaches to schedule athletic assemblies and pep rallies

• a) Coordinates the use of other school athletic facilities by school teams outside with the respective building principals

• b) Assumes responsibility for game management at all home interscholastic contests and for the accounting and deposit of gate receipts

• c) Provides for the cleaning, repairing and storing of all athletic equipment and maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment

• d) Works with school trainers to establish procedures for the management and safe operation of the training room

• e) Plans, organizes and supervises all athletic awards programs with the approval of the principal

• f) Promotes publicity for all interscholastic sports, including sports brochures, press, and radio releases for all schools

• g) Coordinates all repair and maintenance activities for varsity athletic fields, track, fields and gymnasiums with the maintenance and facilities department

• h) Manages athletic facilities and controls access by all user groups

• i) Hires or makes necessary arrangements to provide ushers, parking, security and other services required by the athletic department

• j) Assumes responsibility for assignment of keys to athletic facilities and gymnasia

• k) Represents the school at league, conference and state meetings

• l) Develops a reasonable and equitable program for the utilization of the concession stands

• m) Schedules physical examinations in accordance with the requirements of the State Association

Skills/Requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

? Valid Arkansas Teaching Certificate/License preferred

? Bachelor Degree required

? Prior Restorative Practices, Professional Learning Communities, and Response to Intervention (RTI) experience and/or training preferred

? Must be thoroughly familiar with and knowledgeable of policies of Arkansas Lighthouse Academies and the Arkansas Activities Association as outlined in the respective handbooks, by-laws and sport regulations of these organizations.

? Establish, model, practice, and reinforce age-appropriate rules and logical consequences; create and consistently use individual behavioral management plans, as needed.

? Implement procedures, systems, and routines that provide structure for scholars and maximize extra-curricular and athletic program time.

? Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parent/guardians remaining sensitive to different families' cultures, values and needs.

? Work collaboratively with parents/guardians, families, and other members of the community to involve them in extra-curricular and athletic activities and to support the success of a diverse scholar population and to bring in volunteers and additional resources.

PROFESSIONALISM

? Collaborate with colleagues (grade level and school-wide meetings, Professional Learning Communities, professional development days, the professional development institute) to continuously improve personal practice, classroom instruction, assessment, and scholar achievement, as well as the overall goals and mission of the district, schools, and overall athletic program.

? Access meaningful experiences (current theory, research, and developments in relevant academic disciplines, professional development opportunities, and ideas from colleagues and supervisors) and exercises judgment in accepting findings as valid for application in classroom practice and teacher improvement.

? Reflect critically upon experience; identify areas for further professional development as part of a professional development plan that is linked to schools, program and charter/district goals; and listen thoughtfully to other viewpoints and respond constructively to suggestions and criticisms.

? Use feedback to update Individual Professional Development Plan.
