Description

The NISC IV Training Group (NTG) within the Leidos Digital Modernization group is looking for an experienced Technical Writer. Support is required to concentrate on assisting in preparation, formatting, editing, researching, and processing documents to include policy/guidance material (such as advisory circulars, notices, orders, policy memos, policy statements, technical standard orders, and Federal Register notices of availability), rules, and certification project specific documents (such as exemptions, special conditions, and special class airworthiness criteria)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Proofread documents to ensure the accuracy of format, structure, proper semantic/syntactic use, spelling, and punctuation, , in accordance with FAA style and U.S. Government Printing Office guidelines.
  • Edit documents, to include checking and correcting the content to ensure consistency and coherence; style; grammar; parallel structure; and cross-referencing, ensuring:

  • All documents are clear and comprehensible.
  • There is a logical development of subject matter.
  • The level of concept, expression, and vocabulary is appropriate for the target audience.

  • Partner with subject matter experts, other technical writers/editors, team lead, attorneys, and/or management officials to ensure document meets consistency and accuracy standards outlined.
  • Produce edited documents for review.
  • Revise documents to incorporate any requested changes.
  • Format documents in accordance with appropriate agency guidance.
  • Draft airworthiness documents that are technically accurate, adhere to FAA templates, and comply with FAA policy, regulations, and the Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Ensure documents are consistent with similar publications and conform to agency standards.
  • Partner with engineers, inspectors, attorneys, and other stakeholders to ensure high quality and enforceability of airworthiness documentation.
  • Track, monitor, and report on the status of airworthiness document development to meet FAA-established timeliness goals.

  • Basic Qualifications

    • BA degree and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience.
    • Applicants must have a full understanding of the principles, standards, and best practices of written communication.
    • The position requires someone that will be able to work independently to ensure documents meet governmental standards, and also be able to collaborate with team members and customers to produce high-quality written products for the customer.
    • Strong communication skills are essential, as the position will have a significant impact on the customer's perception of our team's professionalism and performance.
    • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or other government agency.
    • Ability to obtain FAA Public Trust Suitability. (To be eligible for Public Trust you must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder who has resided in the US for the past 3 years)

    Pay Range:

    Pay Range $63,700.00 - $115,150.00

    The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
