The Electrical Systems Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions. As a technical contributor, the individual will support a variety of programs to develop electronic assemblies integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead team of engineers developing electronics for a first of its kind Radar system
  • Serve as a technical liaison with customer representatives
  • Brief technical aspects of system design, integration, or test plans and activities to customers and other external stakeholders at formal program reviews
  • Act as a control account manager for Electrical engineering team, managing cost and schedule to the program plan
  • Manage an execution plan for the team and provide weekly status reporting to the internal and external management teams
  • Manage development, test, and demonstration of all electronics elements on emerging VHF radar panel capability. This includes defining key test / integration milestones for the RF performance, integration with firmware, benchmark testing at temperature, and sensor stability and sensitivity testing
  • Lead the team responsible for overall system power, distribution, cabling, and sensors. This includes multiple chassis designs, large system control and safety elements, and managing integration planning. Manage multiple ICDs covering these systems
  • Manage the electronics design for the overall transmit receive group which includes the digital receiver exciter, RF high power amplification, cascade and loss budget, switching power supplies, and overall electronics packaging and documentation
  • Manage overall engineering resource support for two production teams. This includes supporting rapid investigation and resolution of production issues, engineering review boards, and design changes
  • Manage the development and deployment of an overarching automated electronics ATP suite to the production teams. This includes management and reporting of results, coordination of test setup upgrades, and management of performance results
  • Support Electrical system integration. This includes both inputs to the overall system acceptance test planning and inputs to training and manual development

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with 8+ years of experience or 6+ years with MS degree.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience leading cross-functional, technical teams
  • Candidate must have 5+ years of experience in hardware system design and test from architecture through implementation
  • Candidate must have basic understanding of radar systems or at minimum sensor system operations
  • Candidate must have experience leading and conducting Technical Design Reviews and presenting technical reports and materials to customer teams
  • Candidate must have a strong understanding of Electrical power distribution, signal cables, coax cables, fiber connectivity, industrial sensors, and rack electronics. Specific past performance integrating or working with a system with >75kVA power draw.
  • Candidate must be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Candidate must have strong verbal and written technical communication skills
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment
  • Candidate must have the ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
  • Candidate must have proven understanding of fundamental circuits and circuit components
  • Candidate must have hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a multidisciplinary team environment and have experience mentoring & guiding team members
  • Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Possess a secret clearance, or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of Electronics including PCBA development, high speed digital design, RF design, high power amplifiers, RF cascade development, MIL-STD-461 EMI qualification and analysis, and radar system phase noise
  • Experience with leading small to mid-sized technical teams.
  • Electrical design for military hardware or aerospace systems

Pay Range:

Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
