Chief Engineer - High Power Systems

Leidos Defense Systems, is seeking a talented Chief Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos Defense Systems provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, IT and manufacturing solutions to our customers most technically challenging problems.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a Chief Engineer within the Defense Systems Group, the individual will lead a product development team involved with design and implementation of high power electrical systems and associated control systems. The position will have responsibility for planning, tracking, and execution of complex tasking within technical, schedule, and budget constraints. The Chief Engineer will be one of the primary interfaces with the customer and will also be responsible for customer technical relationships. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will be a critical member of the proposal team responsible for follow-on business and on contract growth. Position is based out of Huntsville, AL but requires frequent travel to Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) in Tennessee to interface with customer and monitor hardware installation activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidate must have strong leadership credentials, good organizational skills, attention to detail and work well as a key member of a team often tasked to be highly responsive and agile in order to satisfy critical warfighter needs.

The candidate must have experience in the following areas:

  • Bachelors Degree and 12+ years of prior relevant experience or 10+ years with MS degree.
  • Experience with high power electrical and associated control systems
  • Cost estimating and Budget management
  • Organizational/IPT development
  • Leading a large and diverse team including suppliers and subcontractors
  • Disciplined metric-driven program management
  • Proven Experience managing to and meeting tight schedules
  • Effective communication of information between various functional disciplines as well as strong briefing skill with Sr. Gov't customers (SES, General Staff) and C level leadership.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of hardware development, manufacturing, procurement, production, and integration.

Must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate.

Must be a U.S Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
