Within Gibbs & Cox, the Engineering Group has the lead responsibility for; a) providing expert marine engineering and naval architecture solutions and services on schedule and within budget to the business groups within the company; b) planning and managing advanced engineering and research projects for the company in support of corporate capability objectives; c) maintaining a program of strategic technical innovation development in support of on-going and up-coming business pursuits and; d) supporting and sometimes leading business growth and new business development initiatives; all to the highest standards of technical quality, product and service performance, and customer satisfaction that is the known reputation of our company.
The Engineering Group Assistant Portfolio Manager reports to the Engineering Group Portfolio Manager and is responsible for assisting in the management of the Engineering Group in the development, implementation and sustainment of the policies and practices that guide the Engineering Group. The Engineering Group Assistant Portfolio Manager assists in leading the Group to achieve its strategic direction in conjunction with Company marketing and business development functions and specifically the quality of the technical products. This includes having and maintaining ongoing involvement with the maritime engineering and naval architecture industry, both government and commercial, while keeping the Company visible, participating, and influencing the technical and policy trends of our industry. Day-to-day operations include providing oversight on technical design and engineering. A key element of this role is to motivate, develop and train engineering staff to drive performance and achieve team goals and company objectives, as well as provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to the staff. The Engineering Group Assistant Portfolio Manager assists in and is responsible for the quality, integrity, schedule and delivery of products from the Group. Being involved with direct communications with the program management offices and clients at all technical discussions. As well as supporting the development of proposals, schedules and estimates. This includes ensuring that budget and schedule targets are realistic and can be adhered to.
Location: This position allows for remote work. However the candidate must be local to a Leidos Gibbs & Cox office to attend meetings as needed. Office locations are : Arlington VA, Philadelphia PA, New York NY, New Orleans LA, Newport News VA, Houston TX.
Minimum requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required with Active Secret Clearance
- Bachelor's or master's degree in naval architecture, marine engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 15 years of experience in naval and maritime engineering
- Experience including but not limited to:
- New Construction
- In-service support
- Functional Ship Systems Design
- Business Development
- Management experience with both commercial and US Navy marine engineering
- Experience working with national and international standards organizations, standards development committees, and government and commercial client technical approving authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Experience in working directly with shipyards and various maritime related customers and vendors (ie: USN, USCG, large and small shipbuilders, commercial owners and operators, and marine equipment and solutions suppliers)
- Experience including but not limited to:
Desired Additional Skills and Experience
- A professional engineering certification is desired.
- Experience managing and providing guidance on unmanned solutions as it pertains to ship design
- Demonstrated ability to attract, staff, motivate and lead a multi-disciplined and focused engineering team.
- Proven track record interacting with customers regarding both technical and strategic business issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proven collaborator with superiors, peers and staff.
- Able to personally solve hard technical problems.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $148,850.00 - $269,075.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
