At Leidos, we are tackling some of the most critical challenges in national security and government modernization. As part of one of our largest Department of Defense (DoD) contracts, we are assembling a cutting-edge team to drive process improvement and operational efficiency through the development and deployment of AI, ML, and intelligent automation technologies.
We are seeking an experienced AI/ML Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced AI tools and intelligent agents in support of DoD continuous improvement efforts. This role will focus on creating impactful solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs), machine learning, and automation to solve complex operational challenges and enhance mission efficiency. This work spans both mission-facing DoD solutions and internal Leidos enterprise initiatives, giving team members the opportunity to contribute to operational excellence across a variety of domains. These roles are critical to delivering measurable impact through intelligent technology.
What You'll Get to Do:
• Design, develop, and operationalize AI tools, autonomous agents, and intelligent assistants to address use cases in support of the contract.
• Leverage Large Language Models (e.g., GPT, LLaMA) to enhance decision-making, document analysis, and process automation.
• Participate in agile development cycles, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and ensuring constant delivery of value.
• Track progress and tasks using Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Attend stakeholder meetings to gather requirements and demonstrate progress.
• Translate ambiguous operational needs into actionable technical solutions.

• Build and deploy production-ready generative AI and machine learning systems.
• Develop automation workflows to reduce manual burden and streamline operations.
• Collaborate with mission owners, analysts, and developers to iterate on tool functionality and usability.
• Work within secure environments, ensuring solutions meet GovCloud, cybersecurity, and Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements.
• Establish and document secure, compliant development environments within GovCloud frameworks.
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
• BS degree and a minimum of 4 years proven experience building and deploying generative AI tools in production environments.
• Must be a US Citizen and have an active Secret Security Clearance.
• Deep understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and model integration.
• Experience with NLP techniques (entity recognition, summarization, document classification, etc.).
• Background in autonomous agent design and workflow orchestration.
• Familiarity with secure government cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, IL4/5) and ATO processes.
• Strong ability to operate independently, navigate unclear requirements, and drive results.
• Proficient in project tracking and agile development tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Excellent documentation and process standardization skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration capabilities.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
• Experience integrating GenAI or ML solutions in secure, regulated environments.
• Familiarity with DoD or IC data environments and mission workflows.
• Experience with knowledge mining or vector search integration.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
