Job Summary:
Specimen Processors are responsible for introducing specimens to the laboratory for testing through
various Laboratory Information Systems and automated instrumentation. Processors follow established protocols to ensure sample analysis can proceed without error. In addition, Processors must meet quality measures, provide accurate specimen identification, meet productivity metrics, and expeditiously deliver samples throughout the laboratory. Within the Day sift Specimen Management Department.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 11:00am-07:30pm with rotating weekends.

Functional Responsibilities
- Receives and tracks incoming samples and shipments Accurately records all specimens received and verified according to the LCA positive patient identification policy.
- Makes certain they are all bar-coded, scanned, and packaged entirely and accurately according to departmental guidelines and timeframes.
- Accurately and correctly unpacks and distributes shipments-documents problems according to department protocol and timeframes.
- Accessions samples as required; centrifuges and aliquots according to procedures. Accurately and correctly aliquots samples and pulls original specimens for the department according to established procedure.
- Places samples in appropriate bins promptly.
- Performs audits to resolve any outstanding problems. Performs typing/data entry with accuracy and speed Ensures that all trash, biohazard, and recyclables are disposed of according to company guidelines.
- Maintains a clean work area and ensures that supplies are restocked. Notifies Supervisor/Manager promptly of those issues that are not within scope to resolve.
- Maintains complete, accurate, and up-to-date documents such as logs and reports.
- Performs routine/preventative maintenance on designated equipment entirely and accurately according to an established procedure such that the equipment is in optimal working condition.
- Ensures a professional work environment is maintained.
- Tracks, packs, and ships samples following standard operating procedures.
- Attendance meets departmental guidelines.
- Acts in a professional to colleagues; pleasant, shares information relevant to work, no gossiping or disparaging remarks.
- Sets a personal example of high ethical standards in performing their assigned duties.
- Exhibits awareness of, and adheres to LabCorp's compliance policies, which apply specifically to their assigned duties.
Skill Requirements:
- Speech clarity, using fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one's feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping. Additional job duty (as assigned):
- (Hazardous Chemical Waste Management) Proper identification of known hazardous material in the workplace. .
- The avoidance of accidents. Understanding hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulations limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, container, and storage inspection.
- Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures.
- Far acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more; near acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less; depth perception-ability to judge distance and space relationships; ability to pass a standardized color vision test, as required by tasks performed.
- Computer literate, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
Education and Experience: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; 1-3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
