About the Team:

  • Part of the In vitro Toxicology department with a core team of approximately five scientists with exposure to the wider department and other stakeholders. You will join a growing and topical business area working on New Approach Methodologies (NAMs).

Post-Doc Project Summary:

  • Focusing on R&D In vitro toxicology work
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of a complex human cell-based cardiac model. This model will facilitate the study of electrophysiology parameters, contractility and cardiotoxicity. The core focus will be culturing 2d and 3D iPS derived tissues specifically for medium-throughput screening and further mechanistic follow-up studies. The project will provide data for use in publication and/or podium presentation(s) and an opportunity to take an industry lead on this emerging topic. Culturing multiple cell types in a 3D structure increases maturation, enhancing predictivity and sensitivity. Screening and mechanistic follow-up studies can be improved through use of a multi-cellular tissue-like system, therefore this model holds extreme value for predicting cardiac disease endpoints and contributes to novel NAMs. Application to both acute and chronic exposures will be investigated as it will be important to understand limitations of the model (e.g. long cultivation times) to assess its commercial value and applicability as a medium-throughput screening tool
