Metabolism Chemist - Test Article Coordinator

This position is part of our Metabolism studies team. In this position you will be responsible for the receipt and catalogue of client test materials, the shipping of client materials/correspondence and the daily preparation of vehicles and formulations for dose formulation.

Candidates given best consideration will have the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of dose formulations, chemistry and/or formulation development
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The essential job duties are:

  • Interact with scientific staff and clients to research formulation requirements for nonstandard test article preparations. Recommends modifications in formulation methods or procedures
  • Review data and prepares materials according to procedures.
  • Follows procedures to create formulations and vehicles to dose.
  • With assistance, performs analysis using HPLC, UV vis turbidity, pH measurements, etc as needed
  • Identify and take appropriate action with problems, potential problems with protocols, SOPs, dose preparations, and schedules
  • Work safely with known and unknown hazardous chemicals and maintains safe work environment
  • Recognize deviations from expected results and seeks advice from others to formulate a plan
  • Provides input and participates in study meetings (ie pre-initiation meeting).
  • Maintains study documentation in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Deliver results within agreed timeframe, whilst recognizing changes in priorities
  • Begin to support studies in non-primary area of work, as required
  • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment and perform routine maintenance.
  • Exhibits any combination of sample management tasks, including labeling, transferring, tracking, inventory reconciliation, archival, and disposal of test article and/or samples.
  • Coordinate retrieval, check out, and return of study related materials and documents appropriately.
  • Has ownership for entry and accuracy of client material inventories and shipping paperwork.
  • Determines disposition of study specific test articles and samples.
  • Maintains and organizes the storage units to ensure integrity of study related materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Associates degree required, BS/BA degree in Life Sciences preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience may be substituted for level of education
  • General laboratory experience
  • Knowledge of GLPs and regulatory agency guidelines (e.g. FDA, EPA, etc.) preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Physical requirements include, but not are limited to, standing, bending, reaching and lifting. May work in walk-in cold storage units.
  • Trained in handling potentially hazardous chemicals or materials and approved to handle radioactivity (as appropriate).
  • Must be able to lift approximately 35 lbs. for short periods of time.

Schedule: 5:30am-2:30pm

  • Flexibility needed due to overtime and occasional weekend work (as required)
  • Possibility for on-call work
  • Work with potentially hazardous substances and radiolabeled samples.
