The Role

This role requires a senior-level z/OS expert to deliver consulting services in a complex, multi-vendor, multi-protocol enterprise environment. The resource will serve as the primary point of contact for z/OS Operating System engagements, collaborating with customers, vendors, and internal Consult Core Enterprise Practice teams.

The z/OS technician will identify and resolve complex issues related to installation, configuration, performance, and operations of z/OS and related technologies. This role demands deep technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to work in high-pressure, dynamic environments.

Core Responsibilities

  • Primary support for IBM commercial mainframe accounts running z/OS
  • Install, customize, and maintain z/OS and ISV software
  • Perform problem determination and resolution (PD, IPCS, LOGREC)
  • Participate in disaster recovery tests and on-call rotations
  • Support project cutovers during weekends and off-hours
  • Create and maintain technical documentation

Required Skills and Experience

  • z/OS & System Programming: z/OS installation, customization, and support; JES2/JES3 advanced skills; SMP/E; HCD; sysplex concepts; user mods and testing
  • Security & Access Control: ACF2, RACF
  • Programming & Utilities: Assembler, TSO/ISPF, JCL, system utilities (DFDSS, IDCAMS, IEBGENER), DFSMS (advanced)
  • Scheduling & Automation: BMC and IBM Scheduler software
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: IPCS, LOGREC, PD tools, vendor coordination
  • Hardware & Configuration: IO Gen, CPU key management
  • Process & Documentation: Change/problem management, documentation updates, virtual team collaboration

Work Conditions

  • Pager/on-call support
  • Weekend/off-hours availability for project deployments
  • Remote collaboration with national teams

This position requires the employee to work on a regular basis with Kyndryl stakeholders located in other Canadian provinces, the United States, or internationally where English is the common language, making knowledge of the English language a requirement for this position in addition to fluency in French.
