The Role

Mainframe Capacity and Performance Specialist Job Summary: The Mainframe Capacity and Performance Specialist is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the capacity and performance of mainframe systems. This role focuses on ensuring the efficient utilization of system resources, maintaining optimal performance levels, and supporting the scalability of mainframe environments. The specialist works closely with application teams, system programmers, and other infrastructure teams to manage system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement capacity planning and performance tuning strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Capacity Planning & Management: Monitor and analyze mainframe system capacity, including CPU, memory, and storage utilization. Develop and implement capacity planning strategies to ensure the mainframe environment can support current and future business needs. Forecast resource requirements and recommend hardware or software upgrades to maintain optimal performance. Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Continuously monitor mainframe system performance, identifying potential bottlenecks or performance issues. Perform tuning of system parameters, workloads, and applications to improve overall system efficiency and response times. Analyze and resolve performance-related issues, collaborating with application teams and system programmers as needed. Problem Resolution & Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe system performance issues, including slow response times, high resource utilization, and system errors. Work with application teams, system programmers, and operations staff to diagnose and resolve performance-related problems. Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrence. System Upgrades & Maintenance: Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and version migrations to ensure the mainframe environment is up-to-date and secure. Customize system parameters and configurations to meet business requirements and optimize performance. Coordinate with vendors and third-party providers to implement system enhancements and resolve issues. Performance Reporting & Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation for mainframe systems, including performance metrics, capacity plans, and tuning procedures. Provide regular reports on system performance, resource utilization, and capacity trends. Maintain and update technical documentation to reflect changes to the mainframe environment. Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with application teams, system programmers, and other IT departments to provide mainframe performance support and guidance. Communicate with vendors and third-party providers to resolve performance-related issues or implement system enhancements. Provide support for after-hours or weekend work as needed for system maintenance, upgrades, or issue resolution. Security & Compliance: Implement and manage security controls for mainframe systems, ensuring only authorized users have access to system resources. Maintain compliance with industry standards and internal policies for data security, system access, and audit logging. Ensure mainframe systems are prepared for audits and reviews, implementing any required security patches or system changes. Disaster Recovery & Backup: Participate in regular disaster recovery tests to validate system recoverability and update recovery procedures as necessary. Ensure regular backups of mainframe data and maintain procedures for quick restoration. Monthly SLA Reporting: Prepare and deliver monthly reports on Service Level Agreement (SLA) metrics to clients, ensuring transparency and accountability in system performance and service delivery.

As a Systems Programmer at Kyndryl, you'll have the opportunity to shape the very foundation of the technology that drives our world. Your work will involve developing, testing, and maintaining the software that controls a computer's operating system, hardware, and other systems software. You'll be a master troubleshooter and problem-solver, with the skills to fix even the most complex issues that arise.

Not only will you be responsible for ensuring the security of our computer systems, but you'll also work closely with other IT professionals to design and implement cutting-edge technology that keeps Kyndryl ahead of the curve.

In this role, you'll provide the underlying Mainframe operating system platform programming and DBDC subsystem programming support that forms the backbone of our applications. You'll guide functional objectives on technologies and make use of your expert knowledge to drive solutions to complex problems.

As a leader in this field, you'll also be expected to conduct RCA discussions for the products you work on and provide ongoing technical and operational guidance to lead professional work teams. You may even manage departments on a national or international level, defining objectives and managing resources to ensure the success of your projects.
