IBMI Operations Administrator
Who We Are
At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward - always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.
The Role
As a IBMI Operations Administrator in Kyndryl, you'll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You'll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients - which means some of the biggest in the world.
There's never a typical day as a IBMI Operations Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You'll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You'll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.
One of the benefits of Kyndryl is that we work with clients in a variety of industries, from banking to retail. Whether you want to broaden your knowledge base or narrow your scope and specialize in a specific sector, you can find your opportunity here. You'll also get the chance to share your expertise by recommending modernization options, identifying new business opportunities, and cultivating relationships with other teams and stakeholders. Does the work get challenging at times? Yes! But you'll collaborate with a diverse group of talented people and gain invaluable management and organizational skills, which will come in handy as you move forward in your career.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Monitoring: Continuously monitor the system status through operations consoles such as the Hardware Management Console (HMC) and the QSYSOPR subsystem. This includes reviewing system messages, job statuses, CPU and memory usage, and the condition of peripheral devices.
- Job Management: Oversee the execution of jobs within the system. This involves starting and stopping jobs, managing job queues, adjusting priorities, and troubleshooting issues related to incomplete or failed jobs.
- Backup and Recovery Management: Execute system backup procedures in accordance with established policies, often using tools like BRMS (Backup, Recovery, and Media Services). When necessary, the operator is responsible for performing data restoration processes.
- Message Handling and Response: Monitor and respond to messages generated by the operating system or applications. These may range from informational notifications to critical alerts requiring immediate action to prevent service disruption.
- Device Management: Administer hardware devices connected to the system, such as printers, tape drives, and terminals. Responsibilities include configuration, status monitoring, and basic troubleshooting.
- PTF (Program Temporary Fix) Application: Under supervision, apply software patches and updates released by IBM to fix bugs or enhance system functionality.
- IPL (Initial Program Load) Operations: Perform controlled system startups and shutdowns as needed, for example, during scheduled maintenance or when applying certain configuration changes.
- First-Line Support: Serve as the first point of contact for users experiencing system-related issues, escalating more complex incidents to the systems administration team or application developers.
- Basic Security Management: Contribute to maintaining system security by managing basic user profiles and ensuring compliance with established security procedures.
