Operations Manager, Salt Production Facility

This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Operations Manager for our Salt Production Facility in Albuquerque, NM. In this role, you will be managing and leading a 24/7 operations team of operators to ensure safe commissioning, startup and day to day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a team of 24/7 operators (including shift management)
  • Coordinate with EHS (Env, Health, Safety) team to write Job Hazard Analyses for all complex hazardous work
  • Lead and conducting Pre-Job briefs to various stakeholders.
  • Understand Hazards associated with the testing required.
  • Write, update, review and MOC procedures
  • Collaborate with Teams
  • Train and mentor operators for 24/7 operations
  • Develop Operator Training Materials and program.
  • Help Train and mentor Operators on DCS, high temperature pilot systems, pumps, valves, heaters blowers, and compressors.
  • Support Advanced Troubleshoot of all equipment, electrical and instrumentation issues
  • Periodically makes rounds of the plant to visually check equipment to see that it is operating properly.
  • Review operator rounds as needed.
  • Follow standard operating and emergency procedures until trouble can be corrected.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or 15+ years of experience working at industrial plants (e.g. Chemical, Power, Nuclear) that required 24/7 operations
  • Experience with reading and understanding P&IDs
  • Preferred experience with high temperature systems, including molten salt applications.
  • Proficiency leading diverse teams.
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Broad experience across power plant topics
  • Experience as a technical mentor
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others.
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge.
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges, and issues.

Physical Conditions

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
  • Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Use hand tools.
  • Ability to wear PPE requirements including Respiratory protection and Tyvek

Safety and PPE

  • Ensure compliance with Control of Hazardous Energy and LOTO programs.
  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
  • Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Color identification: detecting, distinguishing, recognizing and identifying colors.
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes,
  • Handling of Beryllium (Be)

Travel 

  • Some travel may be required 10%

  • Occasionally requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines
