As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within the Glasgow Capital Team, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to develop, enhance and maintain a distributed software application in Python. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering with experience of Python. This role requires a solid understanding of object-oriented design, numerical algorithms, design patterns, and unit testing. Previous experience working on large applications is an advantage. Applicants with backgrounds in other Object Oriented languages such as C++ or Java looking to expand their skillset with Python are encouraged to apply.

Job responsibilities

  • Executes software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Creates secure and high-quality production code and maintains algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems
  • Produces architecture and design artifacts for complex applications while being accountable for ensuring design constraints are met by software code development
  • Gathers, analyzes, synthesizes, and develops visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets in service of continuous improvement of software applications and systems
  • Proactively identifies hidden problems and patterns in data and uses these insights to drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture
  • Contributes to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging technologies
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
  • Apply design patterns to solve complex software engineering problems.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and applied experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns.
  • Proven experience as a Python Developer or in a similar software engineering role.
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
  • Develop unit testing to ensure the quality and functionality of the code.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Git.
  • Use of project management / issue tracking software such as Jira.
