As a senior lawyer in our APAC Asset Management legal team, you will play a crucial role in providing legal coverage for JP Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) Japan's business initiatives. This position offers direct access to senior management and regional stakeholders, providing a unique opportunity to shape the future of asset management in Japan.
As an Assistant General Counsel in the APAC Asset Management legal team, you will be based in Japan and work alongside a paralegal to support JPMAM Japan's asset management business initiatives. You will advise on legal and regulatory issues, draft and negotiate agreements, and collaborate with various teams to implement business strategies. Your role is vital in ensuring compliance and enhancing the firm's control framework.

Job Responsibilities:
- Advise the business and senior management on legal and regulatory issues related to investment products and strategies in Japan.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements for onshore and offshore investment funds and mandates.
- Collaborate with internal business clients to implement business strategies and objectives.
- Provide oversight for JPMAM Japan's investment activities in Japanese real assets.
- Track and advise on legal and regulatory changes.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Control Management to enhance the firm's control framework.
- Represent Legal in various JPMAM Japan product and management committees.
- Create and enhance standard agreements and document templates.
- Collaborate with the broader JPMC Legal team on local and global projects.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Japan qualified lawyer required; additional internationally recognized legal qualifications preferred.
- Minimum 10 years post-qualification experience in law firms or financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of Japan asset management industry legal and regulatory knowledge.
- Fluent in Japanese and English.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and independently.
- Proactive personality with effective interpersonal skills.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Experience in offering investment products for retail and/or institutional markets.
- Manager experience preferred.
