Job Description:

  • Supports the day-to-day availability and performance of SQL Server and Teradata operational support systems, including the ability to troubleshoot and isolate moderate to complex system/application issues for SQL Server and Teradata-based operating systems and hardware.
  • Proposes and implements complex system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of SQL Server and Teradata systems. Manages the configuration of both SQL Server and Teradata databases.
  • Supports the rollout of complex projects that impact SQL Server and Teradata operational support systems. Installing, configuring, and testing different product sets on SQL Server 2008R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and Teradata.
  • Provides 24x7 support on a rotating basis and is responsible for performing the job in accordance with Client vision and values.

  • Responsible for supporting 1000+ SQL DB servers (2000 to 2019) and Teradata databases, providing on-call support.
  • Responsible for all operational aspects of SQL Server and Teradata database systems, including performance, integrity, and security.
  • Plan and execute database migration from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL and Teradata upgrades/migrations.
  • Respond to incidents, troubleshoot issues, and provide advice on improving database performance for both SQL Server and Teradata.
  • Monitor performance of the databases and database servers; determine optimal performance parameters for the database servers, operating systems, etc., and tune as needed.
  • Carry out periodic maintenance of the databases, including table extents, indexes, etc.
  • Carry out periodic maintenance of the database platforms in terms of software updates, security updates, and service packs.
  • Plan, test, and execute data migrations from Microsoft SQL Server DBMS to PostgreSQL DB and Teradata.
  • Ensure that redundant database systems are properly maintained and available for activation as and when required.
  • Carry out database design tasks in conjunction with the software development team and implement enhancements and modifications to the databases.
  • Monitor database logs and take corrective action on issues if required.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call support on a weekly rotating schedule, including weekends.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures/documentation.
  • Experience in legacy DB versions (SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008) as part of migrations to PostgreSQL and upgrades to SQL Server 2019.
  • Provide escalation support for database-related issues.
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior team members as needed.
  • Develop administration automation and monitoring scripts as needed.
Required Industry Experience:
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in SQL Server and knowledge of other RDBMS DBs.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Teradata database administration.

  • Extensive knowledge of key Client systems and processes.
Required Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Microsoft SQL Server administration (preferred).
  • Teradata certification (preferred).
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience with backup technologies such as IBM TSM, Avamar, and DELL DDBoost.
  • Experience in working on ITSM tool BMC Remedy.
