Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives

The Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives for iMentor NYC provides a range of chief of staff-related supports to the iMentor NYC Executive Director and the NYC region, including administrative support and assistance to iMentor NYC teams in the areas of fundraising, volunteer management, partnerships and program operations.  As an ambassador of iMentor and the Executive Director of iMentor NYC, the AD of Strategic Initiatives works with a diverse group of iMentor's internal and external constituents and plays a key role in enabling iMentor’s NYC team to move more efficiently and effectively toward reaching its goals.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, organized, and meticulous individual who is adept at relationship building and communicating in a concise, warm, and direct way across audiences. Discretion and confidentiality are crucial aspects of this position.  This is an exciting opportunity to work with senior leadership, learn and contribute to program, operations and strategy development at a high-impact nonprofit, and gain insight into the landscape of education equity and youth development. The AD of Strategic Initiatives will work collaboratively with all members of iMentor NYC’s senior leadership team and will report to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Director Support

  • Maintain the Executive Director’s complex schedule, including day-to-day and long-term management of meetings, projects, and priorities.  Anticipate the needs of the Executive Director, proactively identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance productivity.
  • Facilitate communication across the senior leadership team, departments, and national-regional teams, ensuring timely dissemination of information and follow-up on action items.
  • Serve as an external ambassador , creating an excellent first impression of the organization as the first point of contact for a wide variety of high-level relationships between Executive Director and key stakeholders, including board members, individual donors, institutional funders, educational partners, and others
  • Coordinate quarterly iMentor NYC Advisory Board meetings and related Committee meetings, including agenda-setting and meeting logistics
  • Organize invoices; track and submit monthly credit card expenses to iMentor’s Finance department

Regional Strategy and Culture

  • Serve as an internal ambassador to regional and national staff in support of collaboration, connection, and fostering a strong culture of engagement
  • Coordinate weekly NYC Leadership Team meeting (setting the agenda in partnership with the Executive Director and Leadership Team members, leading meeting set-up and logistics)
  • Coordinate monthly NYC Staff Gatherings, including agenda-setting, set-up and logistics
  • Lead strategic and culture initiatives throughout the year as needed

Organizational Coordination

  • Coordinate regional goal-setting process and year-round monitoring of regional performance goals
  • Coordinate annual budget process for the region and maintain year-round budget tracking
  • Coordinate talent processes and initiatives (professional development, performance management, and other special projects)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of office experience, ideally working in partnership with senior leadership
  • Extremely well organized, detail-oriented and proactive
  • High level of professionalism and discretion
  • Strong verbal and written communication, including experience creating written content for internal audiences, external stakeholders, nonprofit board members, and/or donors
  • Collaborative and able to build strong relationships across teams and levels of seniority
  • Proven organization and time management skills to complete a high volume of varied responsibilities in a fast-paced setting and deadline-driven environment
  • Understanding of and passion for issues around mentoring and equity in education
  • Self-directed and able to work independently; resourceful, strategic problem-solving ability with a positive attitude ‘can-do’ approach
  • Flexible and adaptable; open to change, learning, and improvement
  • Demonstrated alignment with iMentor's mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Views differences between individuals (race, gender, age, cultural heritage, physical ability, education, beliefs, and lifestyle) as an asset and demonstrates an appreciation of the diversity across the iMentor community.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Our organization works in partnership with district public schools across the country. In doing so we must meet all compliance requirements of those districts including background checks.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary $80,000 annually
  • Up to 100% employer funded comprehensive medical and dental coverage
  • 18 days paid annual vacation (increasing annually to 21, 23, 25), 13 paid holidays + your birthday + one floating holiday, iMentor closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day, plus 6-7 sick days annually
