Enterprise Storage Specialist
Introduction
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Enterprise Storage Specialist with extensive expertise in IBM DS8000 series storage systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, migration, performance tuning, data protection, and integration of DS8K environments, ensuring optimal performance, high availability, and data integrity for critical business operations. This role requires a deep understanding of storage concepts, IBM Power Systems, and various IBM storage management tools, along with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Your role and responsibilities
- Administer and manage IBM DS8000 series storage systems.
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on DS8K systems.
- Utilize IBM storage management tools for effective storage administration and automation.
- Lead and execute complex storage migration projects to DS8K platforms.
- Analyze, diagnose, and optimize DS8K performance for diverse workloads.
- Configure storage pools and volumes for optimal performance characteristics.
- Design, implement, and manage data protection strategies utilizing DS8K features.
- Implement and enforce data security measures.
- Integrate DS8K storage environments with cloud storage solutions.
- Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex storage-related issues.
- Integrate DS8000 storage with other IBM systems and enterprise infrastructure components.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of storage configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Required technical and professional expertise
- In-depth understanding of DS8000 series architecture, features, and functionality.
- Strong understanding of core storage concepts and proven experience in storage migration.
- Knowledge of IBM Power Systems servers, specifically their role as controllers within the DS8000 series.
- Proficiency with IBM DS Storage Manager, DS CLI, and DS Open API.
- Solid understanding of data protection concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex storage issues effectively and work collaboratively with vendor support.
- Proven ability to optimize storage performance for various workloads.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex storage challenges.
- Total Experience: 12+ years in IT infrastructure with a focus on storage.
- Relevant Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience with IBM DS8000 series storage systems.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Familiarity with other IBM Storage Solutions (umbrella).
- Understanding of broader cloud storage and virtualization concepts.
- Experience with scripting or automation for storage tasks.
- Relevant IBM certifications.
