Summary:
The Social Media Content and Analytics Manager will serve as business owner for HHMI and Janelia's social media brand accounts across multiple social media platforms and in coordination with sub-brand accounts (Tangled Bank, BioInteractive). This role will manage the creation and posting of original content across platforms, monitor activity and engagement, and provide regular reporting to communications leadership.
This role will collaborate with the Marketing Manager to tailor social media content to align with overall HHMI goals and priorities. It will focus on ensuring that the Institute's work is effectively communicated to key audiences.
The Social Media Content and Analytics Manager works a three-day hybrid schedule at HHMI's Headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD and reports to the Director, Digital Media and Marketing.
This position will remain open until May 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET, after which applications will no longer be accepted.

What you will do:
- Implement strategic objectives for HHMI's social media presence in alignment with overall HHMI communications and engagement priorities. Develop and execute a social media strategy to achieve those objectives.
- Develop creative strategies to expand HHMI's engagement with a range of social media channels, including channels that have not historically been used, in order to reach different audiences and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain an analytics dashboard to provide real-time feedback on strategy metrics. Monitor, analyze, and report social media performance indicators and use data to inform strategy recommendations.
- Own content creation process for social media, including idea generation, content production, managing freelancers and other content creators, and developing and managing editorial calendar.
- Proactively coordinate content with sub-brand accounts to ensure a cohesive, strategic approach to social media communications across HHMI.
- Research and provide strategic recommendations for new social media channels and methods for reaching target audiences. Implement and analyze the performance of approved recommendations.
- Maintain HHMI social media guidelines and/or policies for employees.
- Serve as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert to HHMI leaders on social media activity and trends.
- Monitor social media activity and provide real-time updates to Leadership Communications staff during critical events.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least seven years of directly relevant experience as a social media or digital strategist.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing social media strategy, including content strategy, creation, distribution, and evaluation in campaigns and business as usual activity.
- Demonstrated experience using data analysis and research to develop and inform social media strategy and content development.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present analytics.
- Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing social media training geared at the scientific community.
- Experience managing contractors.
- Experience working with nonprofit, academic, or technical experts.
- Advanced knowledge of current and emerging social media trends and practices, including new and emerging strategies and technologies.
- Expert understanding of major social media platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, BlueSky, Substack, and LinkedIn.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of social media listening, reporting, and scheduling tools.
- Superb interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative relationships.
- Superb creative skills, including writing, editing, project management, as well as some graphic design and photo editing capabilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. Compensation Range
$105,445.60 (minimum) - $131,807.00 (midpoint) - $171,349.10 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal consistency when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
