Seize this opportunity as a skilled Secondary Application Engineer to design and produce high quality application engineering solutions for Hitachi Energy as we respond to a rapidly developing renewable energy sector. You'll use your knowledge and expertise to understand customer specifications and identify improvements, whilst maximizing efficiency and minimizing project risk. You will work in close consultation with the customer, contract project manager and wider Hitachi team. Drawing from specialist experience from within Grid Automation you will devise application engineering solutions tailored to our client's specifications. Using the latest and traditional software you'll execute detailed designs within agreed timescales, scoped out within budget. Applying quality standards and H&S requirements.

You will know how to handle customers on technical issues as a trusted expert and be comfortable interacting with official contacts and contractors as you proactively provide expertise and guidance and take a leading role. The role:

  • To act as a technical specialist for Application / Circuit Engineering within the team.
  • To develop technical specification for Plant items such as CT's, VT's, Circuit Breakers, auxiliary supply boards and Protection & Control Equipment
  • Preparation of Diagrams such as (but not limited to):
  • DID (Design Intent Documents)
  • AC connection diagrams and block tripping diagrams
  • Distance and unit protection schemes
  • Biased differential transformer protection & Overcurrent and earth fault protection
  • Control schemes such as Synchronizing, delayed auto reclose
  • Busbar protection and Circuit breaker fail schemes
  • Auxiliary systems and Local Control cubicles
  • To input into design review meetings and design risk registers
  • To calculate Cable, Battery and LVAC loading requirements
  • To provide support during the production of Wiring Diagrams, Cable Schedules, core sheets and other general interfacing diagrams.
  • Assist in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.)
  • Commercial awareness and support project management in issuing claims (new/change in scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.)

Your Background:

  • HNC / HND in Electrical engineering
  • UK National Grid CDAE Accreditation (Preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the Electrical Industry and in a similar role
  • Strong design capability and experience in the secondary application engineering discipline of Power System.
  • Strong coordination and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external teams and customers.
